For the record, I'm an agnostic. I don't particularly care for organized religion. Islam is included in that sentiment. I just think that this is a non-story that's been elevated into the national debate because of anti-Muslim sentiment nationwide that's turning into a bogus wedge issue going into the elections. This is just another ridiculous corporate media distraction to keep people from noticing that the corporations and power elite in this country are destroying the middle class and stuffing their pockets while they pick America clean.

There are much more important things to argue about.

I am all for freedom rights but building a mosque in that vicinity is provocative, and highly insensitive to the sentiments of the people who lost loved ones in the 9/11 attacks. It is not like the 9/11 terriosit were just regular muslims, but those guys were religious fanatic jihadist, who killed thousands of Americans in the name of their religion and Allah. I think Obama should have continue to be on the sideline on this issue than getting involved, let the mayor of NYC and the governor handle it. Wow, repukes going to have field day on this. The only problem here is being caused by bigots and people who want to demonize Islam for political gain because there's a large and growing anti-Muslim sentiment in this country. I'm sorry, but IMO that's an idiotic reason to oppose the construction of this building. The denial of these people's First Amendment rights to appease bigots is reprehensible and un-American.

Conversations like this really fuel the reason why people just can't get along. You just want to see your pov, you aren't even trying to see another. What people like myself and Book keeo trying to illustrate is that we don't have a problem with Mosques or even people who practice there but why put it there if its going to cause a problem for so many. Manhattan is fucking huge and there are plenty of other places to build Mosques why buld one where it well get the most negative attention. It makes it seems as if those who are building this Mosque are looking to start problems.

As for your OK city bombing reference and Waco in this country we have developed a relationship with Christianity, its the bed rock religion of the nation and people are comfortable with it. As Americans our only true exposure to Islam are extremist who want to hurt us and destroy our way of life. Christianity is engrained in our customs from everything to Christmas and Santa Claus to Easter and the Easter bunny. Our consumer based way of life has a good relationship with Christianity so even if some extremist do things in the name of Christianity we have other customs built into our way of life that cancel out the negatives. Unfortunately there is no such foundation for Islam so its understandable people might feel the way they do.

My next point is the mayor of New York (Michael *Bloomberg,) many religious organizations IN NYC and the agency that came up with the idea live in the city.

If people are going to get upset, they should talk to the people of NYC who approved this idea, not Obama.

But it seems that everybody is mad at Obama as if he not only originated the idea, but he spearheaded the campaign to make this a reality.

Is anybody mad at Mayor Bloomberg, or they're just focused on Obama?

If obama came out & said he wasn't a fan of the idea would they scrap the idea? I don't think so because he wasn't part of the plan to create it in the first place...

And lastly, was Obama asked his opinion on the mosque? I don't have any proof, but I'm pretty sure a reporter (or 2) asked him his opinion about it because he is the President of the U.S...
