Those skin creams don't work. The "bleaching creams" you see at the convenient stores are for bleaching minor discolorations and removing scars. It doesn't lighten your entire complexion. These products only contain a little bit of hydroquinone, no more than 2-3%. Believe it or not, most of the Argentines I have met have gone to great lengths to show they are very open-minded. They consider themselves the most advanced Latin Americans on the continent and think that being racist is not being "European" or sophisticated. Their greatest hostility I have seen has been reserved for other Latino nationalities, particularly Mexicans.
Actually Los Angeles, I think it's 1/16. That's the only fraction I've heard expressed, and it used to be the "One Drop" rule, regardless of whether it was physically evident or not.
I think LA is incorrect. Maybe hispanics who look white aren't considered white but ANYTHInG European is considered white. Hell even Russia which is an Asian Country gets to claim white.
My ex-wife was from Spain, and they consider themselves European/white, but are viewed as something less-than and with great hostility by Northern Europeans, especially in post-war Germany. The French have a saying "Africa begins at the Pyrenees Mountains" that is used pejoratively toward Spaniards to make glib references to their Arab/Berber/Moorish history. Their awareness of their "non-pure white" status is the reason why Spain & Portugal's colonies, despite obvious racism, did not follow arbitrary 'one-drop' rules and the like. It has led the vast amount of racial categories and hierarchies found in Latin America depending on what percentages you have of whom. It's silly, I know, but it is one of the factors that contributes to (along with inherent US-based racism) the difficulties between African-Americans and some Latino groups across the country.
And Spaniards immigrating to the US were generally considered white here, until the greater influx of Latin American immigrants caused people with Spanish surnames to be arbitrarily lumped into categories. Now they are regarded as in Europe in many ways, as something 'less-than' or 'not quite' white. Similar to the way Arabs and other racial subgroups are.
Whuuuuuu??????? That is just plain wrong - Im norther European (family on dads side - Ge4rman) I have never, ever met a European who do not consider Spain white. I have never even heard of Spanish people not being anything other than white until I moved here. and I have certsainly never ever heard of any "hostility" towards Spanish people. I feel this is an American thing - not European.. I just never heard of it , I have friends from all over Europe and none of them have heard about this "fact" either It makes no sense at all to me.... why would Spanish people be not white and Italians then are??? I dont get it. Never hear dof it until I came to this board as a matter of fact. In fact, where Im from all Hispanic people are considered white unless they are of mixed or other origin. Clearly Russians are white - they arent Asians - apart from some populations.
No problem. It was weird for me befriending many of them, because they (Argentines) always express a love of Europe as the apex of civilization. They always call themselves "Europeans in South America" and try to carry themselves as such. While there are some African and indigenous elements in the population, they are majority Spaniard, Italian, German and Syrian ethnically. None of these racial fetishes make much sense scientifically, but it is what it is.
I agree they are mongoloids but Russia is part of Asia so I was a little confused how they can claim white but Spain which is clearly European, actually one of the main ones taught about here in the US, but isn't white. To be honest this is all a big game of Simon Says mixed in with a little tag. It's complete bullshit, just another way for the top 1 percent to keep the rest of us fighting amongst ourselves.
