A little correction... Atheism simply means lacking the belief in god or gods. Being spiritual is separate from believing in a deity. Case in point, Buddhism. It lacks the belief in an all powerful being, but it's spiritual in essence.
Do black americans who are Christian realize, why they are Christian? And if you do, but choose to continue in your belief, what makes you continue to believe?
On a general standpoint it all goes back to one thing: tradition within the family. Because their parents are associate with said religion, therefore they adopt it as well or identify themselves as such without questioning it altogether. The previous sentence could be controversial given the circumstances that some actually explore and question their faith.
I feel ya, but what I was trying to imply was slavery is why black americans are christian for the most part. Our African ancestors were polytheistic, just like most African ethnic groups are/were.

Well they (black people in general in the new world) need to get over it. If you ask any historian of african american history, they will probably tell you the same exact shit that I said. I believe in God, but my definition of God isnt the same as others. I believe w/e started the universe is God, it may or may not be a deity. Im agnostic in those regards.
And that there is a plausible position to take. Rather than sticking with a human made concept, why not either simply say you don't know at all or whatever you lack in knowledge, make up for it through the auspices of the philosophical concept of Logos (which is Law or colloquially known as God - Deist).
I mean that it is often perverted for whatever reason. Yes, it is often because there are various stigmas for being associated with the position. Otherwise, it is because it is simply not understood.
