No specifics really, other than I've just heard you guys know how to throw a party in the Big Easy, lol. I'd love to go to Mardi Gras just to say I've done it. And what the heck is Essence Fest?...fill me in.
We have a VERY strong tendency to get all rowdy and crazy, especially during times like Mardi Gras. The French Quarter, still containing the old French style architecture and style, you'll feel like you're in a whole different world. Basically New Orleans is the most European city in the nation, hence its uniqueness. But generally, it's a bit nutty 365 if you go at the right times. And Essence Fest is basically a black celebration festival complete with all of the top music artists and disc jocks coming together and basically having a good time. It's usually held in June-July weekend and it's pretty crazy too. The only real issue would be if you can't handle the hot weather, but they keep everyone cool with all the drinks and partying here and there.
Essence Fest sounds like a good time. Is it related to Essence Magazine by any chance? Maybe that's a silly question, but figured I'd ask anyway, lol. And yeah, me and the heat don't get a long so well, but oddly enough I'm from Florida, haha! It was 102-105 here on Tuesday - hotter than freaking hell, but it comes with the territory I suppose. Thank God I don't have to work outside. I have a friend who lives in the French Quarter - says it's great. I really need to plan a trip in that direction. Are you from LA originally or just live there now?
I'm born and raised in New Orleans. But after the storm, I migrated to Covington, which is across the lake. We call it the Northshore and it's more rural oriented and small business like. And well, Essence Magazine and Essence Fest are two different things. Essence is just a word black people use to represent the "soul" or pride of the people here in the south. I don't know it's origins 100%, but it does relate to that in some ways. Here is a link from the New Orleans website relating to Essence Fest for more. Oh yeah! Having darker skin may help lessen the possibility of getting skin cancer, but it sure as hell doesn't mean we can enjoy the heat. You'd have to be someone who loves to be outdoors when its hot...minus the pool and swimming!

Lesson learned this weekend - don't put beer in the freezer to chill and then forget about it until the next morning, lol. smh.
