At least according to this chick. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/erica-manfred/alimonyshould-he-pay-if-h_b_922871.html
There's a reason I suggest to women I know that they *do not* follow the traditional pattern of staying home full time to raise a family. If you've done that for decades, you have no skill which is commercially viable when and if a marriage ends. A lot of women who grew up and did that ended up in serious poverty after divorce. Community property at least recognizes that marriage is a partnership, and that the work each partner does is of equal value.
Personally, I think alimony should be outlawed completely. No reason to take care of a person you're not with anymore.

:smt043:smt043:smt043 This knife can cut both ways. If women should get alimony for life, so should the men. I can almost guarantee the women who are in a situation were they have to pay there ex husband alimony, they would give this woman a serious beat down. WTF !!!! ..... BIATCH :smt062
I like how she considers herself a strong independent feminist yet needs to rely on a man's money. PATHETIC
Some women don't depend on men's money. I suspect that would cover most of the women here. I think that going forward you will find fewer and fewer women who stay home and take care of the family, because of financial necessity of two incomes in most households, and because of the fear of being left high and dry without an *option* of a career. Women over 50 have an even harder time getting hired than men over 50, and if the woman has never worked outside the home, she's not even qualified to work at Wal-Mart.
