Its been a long time but I think The Department of Motor vehicles whom governs licencing, tests applicants with whatever car you provide. All driving schools use automatics.
Wow, here it is different. If you want a manual licence then you can drive auto too, but if you test in an automatic car then you can not have a manual drivers licence.
Here in the USA you only need one driver license for a car or other vehicle that does not exceed 26,000 pounds (11818.2 kg) in weight. With it you can drive a car with an automatic transmission or a car with a manual (stick & clutch) transmission. There are many different types of driver licenses here. Ie: Truck, Bus, Motorcycle.... You can not drive these vehicles with a normal driver license for a car as I described above. Here is the list of Georgia licenses where I live if you care to see... http://www.dds.ga.gov/drivers/dldata.aspx?con=1741951492&ty=dl As far as why there are more automatic cars than standard cars.... I am ASSUMING (don't want all the googling statistics people in here to get upset..LOL) that Americans like things easy and comfortable. Just put the car in DRIVE and go. With a manual transmission, especially in the city, you run into a traffic light almost every other block. Always shifting gears can be a headache. I love a manual transmission but driving in the city sucks!!! Rush hours traffic is also a pain in the neck with a manual transmission. I know that in Europe the manual transmission is dominant but it has been that way forever...LOL I learned to drive a manual with verbal instructions from the guy who sold it to me when I was in Germany. It was so much fun because I had never driven one before. After I got used to down shifting to first gear at a stop IT WAS ON BABY!!! WOW!!! There is nothing like your mind controlling the vehicle. You just cant get that experience with an automatic in my opinion.
I tested in automatic but know manual because my dad thought it would be a good thing to know. He had his best friend teach me a stick shift. So my license allows me to drive either and I know both. There is no differentiation here, on your license. I have taught others to do it so it has come in handy to know. It's not that common here to not have an automatic car. Agree with Jay..Americans like it easy.
In Sweden, if you take your licence in an automatic, you get that specified on your drivers licence and can not drive a stick shift. I prefer a stickshift, its more fun, but completely inconvenient and frustrating in LA. My clutch foot would DIE and fall of!!!
Does anyone know why when I put myself on ?? not invisible that some thread just dont show up for me. Ie... I was in the What Song are you Listening too thread and I can see the poster but not the song. Its just a blank. Im gonna go back invisible. Its always a problem when Im visible. This computer is new, my last one used to crash when I was visible but was okay invisible. Also... Whats up with the search function? That shit never finds what Im looking for!! Okay... never mind... I see that my antivirus is checking out everything that people posted before I can see it. It lets me see it AFTER it examines the entire page.
Any one of the folks here who has contact with Tree Pixie off site know how she's been doing lately? Just curious on how she has been since the last time she popped in.
Weirdest thing happened to me today: I was at UCLA walking down Westwood and this student ran up to me from behind and told me "gimme highfive". I said "why" and he replied "because you are awesome". huh??? *scratching head*
