People with entrenched stances do not budge easily. Some crazy person will kill again and the argument will go back and forth which is an exercise in futility. I personally think a mentally deranged person without a gun is less dangerous than one with a gun. So if its mental health issues then fine it must be dealt with but the gun issue must be discussed as well.

And people with severe mental illness will beg, borrow and steal to get guns and kill innocent people.

And I don't think everyone who is a parent should be - like ones who abuse their children. So what's your point?

The ones who shouldn't have guns are the ones who obtained them illegally.

Come up with a solution to get rid of the illegal guns obtained by nefarious means and then the world will be a better place. Never perfect, but better.

No one is trying to persecute the mentally ill but if you're going to talk about gun regulation we'd be very dishonest if we didn't talk about mental health as well since the majority of people spree killing have some type of mental health issue. Its not just the access to guns that makes people like this dangerous.

But persecuting the mentally ill is not the answer. And the point I keep trying to make that is ALWAYS missed is the one concerning stereotypes.

I happened to catch a snippet of a broadcast of the English news.. and in it the newscaster was reporting on the christmas eve shootings in new york. And it struck me how absurd and ridiculous we must look like as a country. A man sets his house on fire, calls 911, and then shoots first responders.

WTF? If you lived outside of this country and heard something like that..you would probably really, really, really wonder what the fuck was wrong with a country that has citizens that set their house ON FIRE to then be able to SHOOT the firemen that come to put the blaze out.
I wonder that we don't find it beyond absurd that we do that and find it a NORMAL occurance in our country.

Every firearm bought at a gun show without background checks like in Virginia, is a LEGALLY purchased gun. However I don't think that's the model most of us would want for gun ownership in the U.S.; cash-and-carry and have a nice day.

How about we close the gun show loophole for starters??

In many states like Tennessee it's legal for me to hypothetically make a personal sale of my own firearm to an individual without any background check. How about we change that law too??

There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people who made 'legal' purchases of firearms but should not ever own a gun.


There are many criminals walking the street who have purchased their guns legally.

If you don't see solutions to reducing the number of privately owned firearms in this country, it's probably because you aren't trying and don't see a problem

Secondly the guy who lit his house on fire and shot first responders WAS MENTALLY ILL, further PROVING there is a major mental health problem. People are going untreated and are doing crazy shit. Its not a stigma since people who are killing innocent strangers are usually fricking crazy. Sorry that you can't admit that but it is what it is. Mentally ill people have a deficiency or a chemical imbalance that makes it difficult to make rational decisions. If this were just an issue of having guns you'd see WAY MORE spree killings but the fact of the matter is its usually these crazies who either steal legal guns or slip through the cracks of the system and exact carnage on the rest of us.
