That's a challenging question. I am a workaholic, not because it's all "mo money mo money mo money" but because I love what I do and am addicted to it. The money helps for sure, but I would probably get annoyed fast with someone obsessed with money, while perhaps not caring what exactly they are doing with most of their waking hours.

I'm fine with a partner that likes to work, but to be specific, I'd prefer he likes to work because he LOVES his career, not just to make bank. Oh and I have no idea how to balance it, I just go hard & then when I make some time, I play hard. lol

I absolutely love what I do...to the point that I won't keep pushing until I'm C-level management, or Director. I don't do mediocre

It's true. When you're in a third world country, you see what happiness truely is. And it's not money. Starving kids don't need dollars, they need food (and a government who gives a shit). But that's another topic entirely.

As far the OP's topic.... I think it just depends on what you really want. You have to be completely honest with yourself. You can have both a career and a good relationship, but you have to respect the other person and give them plenty of time too. That can be hard if your career is more important to you than your relationship (I know you say it's not, but you sounds like it really is).

Personally (and speaking as a poor person) I'd rather be poor and loved by my wonderful husband, than rich and alone.

Youre fortunate that what yoy love is marketable and considered valuable. The vast majority arent that lucky so it becomes about money

It's important to maintain a great level of financial stability and it's never wrong to think about what tomorrow may bring. But there's a fine line between having more money and being smart with your money. But you wonder if there is a balance, yes? It's not always easy. The scales can tip on one end and then hit another. Therefore, balance becomes nothing more but a challenge.

When settling with a partner, both of you need to be on the same page and learn to live in the moments, but be smart with your expenditures as opposed to splurging every minute. To drive yourself into a craze would only keep you from really allowing people see your full potential. You have the power to make something of yourself, but also be mindful that when you have a partner, they are there for you and you should not feel like that such burdens will carried on your shoulders alone.

IamMe, this is a wonderful thought-provoking thread, and I find myself agreeing with both pro and cons of the replies here.

As is with everything in life, desires and goals evolve and change, so it's good to have some fundamentals that won't.

If I had a leaning it would be that I'd rather be in a situation where my bills are paid each month and being with the man I love each night. Of course I include building a retirement nest-egg, helping one's kids out, a decent home, a good quality car and the ability to chill for 2-4weeks a year away from the stress. But I respect and appreciate that love and being loved is as valuable as everything material.

And all of those things require hard work and planning. Or maybe one day I'll hit the lotto, who knows. But knowing me, I'd probably still work, lol. At least teach as an adjunct professor or something.
