Some like their Sunday sermons delivered to them in a serenely manner without much fanfare, others want to be entertained and/or move about. Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church in Houston is the #1 attended Church in the U.S with 44,000 who sit and listen to him softly speak. His sermon words are often very powerful.
Joel Osteen is truly sincere, grounded and funny. He is a relator. He likes to identify with his congregation. Being a minister/pastor/preacher is a fete of multitasking. One has to be a teacher, psychiatrist/psychologist, friend, actor/actress, rock star and leader.
Jesus' church was his disciples and followers, just as it is today. And yes he preached to the masses, but he also preached to his followers. Which is how the Gospel has survived. Jesus didn't have a church building, but he most certainly had a church. You know why people aren't out preaching like Jesus did? What do you think when you see someone on a street corner preaching? What do you do when Jehovah's Witnesses knock on your door? We think they're crazy, nut jobs or we just don't want to deal with them. Many Christians "preach" by living their lives and adhering to their values. And they get flak for that. (Dan Cathy) Please don't lump all churches into the same category. There are many groups of people who worship together and who reach out to others to share the Gospel and meet others' needs. My church spends thousands every year helping people who need it. And it's an inner-city church - far from the pretty mega-churches out there. And we've started a number of sister churches which is indicative of our growth. That's my only issue with huge churches - they should be planting churches, rather than getting bigger and bigger.
Indeed it is. I don't think it's in a bad way though. One is never made to feel unwelcome no matter the race/creed/color. But it's still astounding nonetheless.
He is, though he has been criticized that his sermons are not realistic enough. But yes, a lot is expected of them. I like a balance every now and then. Sometimes I like quiet reflectiveness and seek that out, other times to be electrified and moved which energizes me. All I want is sincerity from a sermon and its deliverer. I love listening to them on the radio..I really enjoy that.
Black Jesus When the Pope confirms the below pic is true...then my attitude about religon will change............ ....And that ain't happening until Hell Freezes Over.
Agreed. But the methods used to preach the Word are vastly different between the many branches of Christianity. And that's all I was referring to. The Catholic religion is truly very different from the other branches in how they celebrate the Word.
Yeah, we'll a lot of these mofos think Heavan has a sign at the front gate that says "Whites Only" Scientists have proven and stated that man originated in Africa. God states he made man in his image. Do the math.......like I said earlier, lots of people gonna be caught off guard and surprised when/if he returns.
The radio is good for listening to sermons. I once worked security at a church owned radio station. The pastors that had shows on the station were diverse in ages and sexes.
word, especially in the deep south not only does it look the same, it nearly sounds the same; dancing like maniacs in the aisles and shit.

Last night, while I was walking to Wal Mart, Joel Osteen and his entourage pulled into a church, I passed. I saw the bus and the Cadillac Escalade with tinted windows, follow behind. Joel and Victoria were definitely in the Escalade. I remembered laughing in amusement. This church that he visited was a few blocks from where I live. I didn't go in because I couldn't afford a ticket.
