Trayvon Martin's Murder

http://tampa.cbslocal.com/2012/05/23/zimmerman-sanford-police-covered-up-beating-of-black-homeless-man-by-white-officer/

The racist, homophobe, war criminal, overzealous, rabid serial killer....George Zimmerman accused the Sanford Police Dept of corruption for the beating of a black man by a white officer.

CNN wouldn't tell you that though.

Really??!! Just stop.

Maybe GZ is none of those things, but one thing is for sure - he was foolish. He jumped to false conclusions and took matters into his own hands. Are you that simple-minded that you can't even see that??

I absolutely agree with that Ches. He illustrated poor judgement in many instances.

But I disagree with the notion that he was A.) racist B.)looking to kill someone that night.

But he was an overzealous dick bag who created a hostile situation based on a wrong assumption and cost someone their life.
Great thing about lawsuits is a criminal verdict means nothing ie OJ
I hope they leave that fucktard penniless.

As someone else pointed out, the term racist means something different to each person. At the very least, he was making a judgement about Trayvon based on his appearance. That's what I got from the transcript of the 911 call.

And I agree with TDK, he was overzealous. Not saying he was looking to kill or for any kind of violence. But he took matters into his own hands instead of listening to what the dispatcher told him.

Mark O'Mara, George Zimmerman's defense attorney, said that they will 'seek and we will get' immunity from civil suits if any are 'spawned from this fiasco.'

Unfortunately, based on this, I don't think his parents will, or even can sue. :smt085

Then I think the only way George Zimmerman will ever actually pay for the crime he commited against this precious child is when karma finally throws him on his ass.

And we WILL hear about it.

I try to be a compassionate person and remember the pain from all angles.

I've failed after reading the above.

This is why most patrol cops operate in PAIRS. A single cop who believes he's about to witness a crime about to be committed calls for backup, to protect himself AND the suspect.

If solo cops went around following suspicious characters and approaching them like Zimmerman did, we'd have thousands of innocent people killed every year by lone police officers.

This idiot thinks he sees a big, bad scary criminal in Trayvon, and for some reason thinks he's in control of the situation when he was anything but when he stepped foot out of his car.

This is why Zimmerman should at least have been convicted of manslaughter; Trayvon isn't dead because he broke Zimmerman's nose, he was murdered because Zimmerman thought a Black kid was a thief and didn't belong in that neighborhood.

It's really disturbing to me that a jury could ignore all the events that occurred that night and only focus on the minor fight and Zimmerman's claims of self-defense.

Zimmerman is the primary reason things spiraled out of control that night, and the state of Florida just told him he did nothing wrong.

They'll be fine, don't worry.

If we don't get justice, that's okay. The country's image and American people will suffer instead. All of us will learn the hard way that firearms/gun control needs to be enforced. If 100's of people have to get killed or have serious injuries happen to them before they take action, then so be it.

Even if that person is you, your friends and loved ones? Noone is a martyr or a sacrificial lamb to get gun control enforced. I won't let anyone with a gun kill me or my friends, family and loved ones, if I have anything to say about it. I would die for them, not for the passage of gun control.

I read his parents settled with the HOA for approx. a million dollars, so at the least they were compensated to help with their loss.

I think also if they did sue him, he doesn't have much financially, as any settlement he most likely will win suing NBC, can not be touched. I also recall from the OJ trial, neither pensions, and in Florida, your home (which is why OJ moved there after his trial so Fred Goldman could not touch it).

They would also have to endure another trial, though he WOULD have to testify, which they may want... so who knows, perhaps forcing their son's killer to speak, may bring them some slight healing.

Wait for civil court

Possibly. However, as has been discussed regarding O'Mara's comment... it may be a tough one to win -

To what's in bold, people already have been martyrs. After the acts take place, there would be talks on the news for 1 or 2 weeks about gun control. You haven't forgot about the elementary school shooting, the Boston Marathon, have you? Even with something as tragic as that happening, people in our political system (the republicans especially) resisted towards the implementation of gun reform. Does this have to be the norm for us? Where most states have court systems like Florida's and have laws like concealed carry/stand your ground?

What would the best solution be for us minorities if the country can't even resolve its gun control? For us to go back to Africa or an African-like country because they don't have gun laws in effect like America does.

Here is Frida Ghitis` perspective about gun control in America - based on the Boston Marathon.

But how strong, really, is America?

Americans are dying by the thousands at the hands of other Americans and the country can't figure out what to do about it.

the U.S. Senate could not manage to approve a minuscule improvement to the country's efforts to keep weapons out of the hands of potential criminals, including possible terrorists even though polls show most of the public support it.

No other nation has even a small portion of America's military power or a fraction of its reach. The country's enemies know they have nowhere to hide.

More than 30,000 people in the United States are killed every year by someone brandishing a gun.

It is a staggering number, no matter what you believe about the right to bear arms. A problem that causes so many people to die every year is one that requires urgent attention.

And yet America simply cannot find a way to stop it. How strong is that?
It is as if a house stood protected as a fortress, with a high fence around it, with guard towers and alarm systems to keep intruders out, while inside the residents were slaughtering one another.

When you travel abroad, people ask what it is about Americans and their guns. As much as we hear from hunters, the issue goes much deeper than that. From the founding days of the nation, freedom lay at its core, and freedom has been viewed as protection from an overreaching government. The Second Amendment to the Constitution, adopted in 1791, states that the people have a right to "bear arms," but it also prefaces it with what sounds like a caveat, that this is because "a well regulated militia" is "necessary to the security of a free state."

The romance and the freedom, it's all part of America's character and history. Americans will never look at guns the way, say, the Dutch look at them.

In some respects, that is part of America's strength. The people feel a very personal stake, a direct responsibility for the country's freedom.

And yet, not even the most ardent gun lovers would argue that it is acceptable for young men filled with hatred, dangerously disturbed or with a track record of violence, to have free access to weapons.

The greatest defenders of freedom agree that the massacre of children in school or of moviegoers in a theater constitute a grave affront to the security of the country. It has become a crisis that demands a response.

If America were really strong, it would find a way to stop the killings, to staunch the bleeding. But no, America has become weak. The nation has become incapable of solving problems through normal legislative channels.
How strong is that?

The country's political system has fallen into a muddy, sticky, foul-smelling quagmire. Problems whose gravity is enough to produce near consensus among the population cannot seem to find a solution in Congress.

If it's a pure security issue, authorities can order everyone to stay at home in Boston for an entire day. They can ask everyone to send in their iPhone pictures of the marathon to try to solve the case together.

If the problem is national debt, however, the mighty nation produces a travesty like the "sequester," creating hundreds of flight delays for no reason at all other than the incompetence of its politicians.

Or if the problem is regulatory oversight, how strong is a country where parts of a town are destroyed by the explosion of a fertilizer plant that had not had an inspection in more than two decades?

America is in possession of more power than any country on Earth. And yet, its people are not secure. They are dying in large numbers from problems that a better functioning government could do much to prevent.

To make America truly strong and its people safe, fixing this broken system deserves at least as much urgent attention as catching the perpetrators of terrorist attacks.

Good post, I found one about Zimmerman's myspace page. The feds *could* use this to their advantage.

It does prove that Zimmerman was racist against his own race.

Those who were the victims who had lost their lives or were seriously injured did not set out to be victims. They were just people who were doing their own things. Minding their own business. Neither was thinking of or aspiring to be victims. Violence is unpredictable. And it is everywhere. We just do not know whom, how or where it will happen. What all these victims do become are statistics. For along time 2nd Amendment lobbyists and politicians have been fighting long and hard to prevent gun control. I am all for it and I agree that something must be done. But, I advocate training and education rather than stockpiling an arsenal for the end of society/zombie apocalypse, the new civil/race war or global catastrophe. The only solution I see is to train in unarmed combat if a person is unable to purchase a ccl, learn survival skills(urban and wilderness), learn knife fighting and archery. If a person is licensed, use only the weapons they know and are comfortable with. You don't have to have an AR or an AK to defend yourself. Train. Most important of all is that a person must be aware at all times.
