Bill Cosby Rape Accusations

Well said, "innocent until proven guilty" is a bedrock principle of our legal for good reason. An expired statute of limitations will keep this situation from being properly litigated, unless a more recent complaint pops up.

If this was a civil case, where the standard is "preponderance of evidence", rather than "beyond reasonable doubt" the mounting accusations from more and more women would carry more weight. Unfortunately, we are left to speculate depending one's own biases, and life experiences.

This is tragic on many levels, that a man who has stood for education, family values, hard work, charity, and stood in very public defiance of the numerous negative stereotypes of Black men, is being taken down in the court of public opinion, by one of the most insidious stereotypes (the sexually rapacious Black man). That being said, if he did commit those terrible, evil, crimes it is equally tragic that it seems he will not face legal punishment.

I respect his body of work and his support for higher education and jazz, but I found his holier than thou attitude repugnant, not from a race perspective, but from a class one. That said, he is innocent until proven guilty.

I'm just stunned that he's pulling the OJ card after the lashing he's received by many blacks in the past

Many blacks supported OJ and rallied to his side, which is what cosby hopes for

If Cosby was on some Harry Belafonte Jr. type shit where he was always critical of some of the fucked up shit that America does, especially all the recent cops killing unarmed black folks, then I could buy that this shit is all about railroading his ass, but just like OJ, more white people had love for him than black people did before all this jumped off IMO.

The court of public opinion has already tried, convicted and condemned Cosby. ...the sheer number of accusers has rendered him void of any sympathy and credibility. ......His very best move at this point is to stagger out of the lime light and use all his resources to conceal himself forever.......there is probably not a rock big enough for the Cos to crawl under right now......

Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, Harry Belafonte Jr., Obama or any black or brown male or female that is viewed as an agitator or straight threat to the All Amerikkkan status quo they will go above and beyond to make look bad in some form or the other. Let Oprah ever start getting all Angela Davis/Afeni Shakur and shit, watch how fast her status and popularity drops....

Oprah
I thought her stock already dropped when she endorsed Obama and when she talked a bit about racism

Pffft. That only applied to the segment of the population who already didn't like her because she was a black female with some clout. Let her actually start making some serious waves or grumblings about the status quo on an ongoing level however.....

Yeah exactly. Also saying that "expect black media to be neutral" can be perceived as extremely arrogant or like a parent talking to a child.

Lol @ this cowardly backdoor rapist hiding behind his wife's skirt. He drugs and/or rapes 24 women and has the-cheated-on-good-wife Camille do his dirty work today and 'speak for him'. Cat got your tongue, huh Bill. :smt018

The sad fact of reality is that there are probably women you know and even women on this board who have likely been raped or sexually molested and have never reported it, and never will.

I will go so far as to say there are even men who have been raped/molested and their rapist are never held accountable because they stayed silent out of humiliation or feared being misbelieved, or suffer behind guilt and denial...or made to feel they will ruin lives by going to the police. Most rapes are not stranger rapes.

I completely Agree

Most likely BC had sexual relationships outside of his marriage but just trying to figure out why all of this with use of drugs when there was a line of women who did not need to use drugs to readily have sex with him. He was not a bad looking guy and he was a star with lots $$$$ who was accepted by white America.

When I go to big events where big stars perform. You have to have heavy duty security to keep the 'groupies' away. Why in the world would any star of that caliber need to drug these women? When tons of great looking women ready to drop their draws for free in splint second for you? Who in a right mind wants a dazed half asleep woman for sex, unless a sicko perv. I dunno too many unanswered ques about Cosby case.......

It's best to remember that Rape and Sexual Assault are crimes of Violence and Power. So, I think it is safe to assume that although there were plenty of women who would consent to sex with him, he was only concerned with violently assaulting and drugging women who wouldn't consent.

Agree rape is about control and power. But with his money if he was that perverted sicko he could have lots of consenting women playing whatever sick twisted role for him. Why throw away his career that he worked hard for, we talking now close 25 + women accusing him

For the few men (and women) in here who questioned why they stayed silent...

Ex-Supermodel Beverly Johnston offers why she didn't...

Bill Cosby Drugged Me. This Is My Story. By Beverly Johnson

.i.1.beverly-johnson-bill-cosby-opener.jpg

"..As I thought of going public with what follows, a voice in my head kept whispering, “Black men have enough enemies out there already, they certainly don’t need someone like you, an African American with a familiar face and a famous name, fanning the flames.”....

- The 62-year-old businesswoman told Vanity Fair that the attack took place at the TV star's New York brownstone when she visited his home to read through lines for her part on The Cosby Show in the mid-80s

- Ms Johnson ate a light dinner with the star before he insisted that she have a coffee from his expensive espresso-maker.

- After initially refusing, the model felt pressured and took a few sips of a cappuccino he made for her.

- Ms Johnson claimed instantly she knew the drink had been drugged...
She wrote: 'My head became woozy, my speech became slurred, and the room began to spin nonstop'...

As I felt my body go completely limp, my brain switched into automatic-survival mode.

That meant making sure Cosby understood that I knew exactly what was happening at that very moment."

-Cosby grabbed her. The model described how she then began repeatedly calling Cosby a 'motherfucker'

She told him: 'You are a motherfucker, aren’t you?', according to the detailed Vanity Fair account, published on Thursday. She repeatedly kept cursing at Cosby.

The TV star appeared angry, she claimed, then grabbed her by the arm and dragged her down stairs with force before pulling her out into the street and dumping her in a taxi.

Ms Johnson said that it took several days for the effects of the drug to wear off and that when they did, she called Cosby's number to confront him.

Instead of the comedian, his wife Camille answered the phone and told her that it was too late for her husband to take the call and she should call back.

She never did.

'At a certain moment it became clear that I would be fighting a losing battle with a powerful man so callous he not only drugged me, but he also gave me the number to the bedroom he shared with his wife,' Ms Johnson wrote in the magazine.

'In the end, just like the other women, I had too much to lose to go after Bill Cosby.'

********

Beverly said that the current racial climate in the U.S. and the cases of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown and Eric Garner remained in her mind, even as she saw others come forward to claim that they had been attacked by Bill Cosby.

Something clicked. 'I couldn’t sit back and watch the other women be vilified and shamed for something I knew was true,' Ms Johnson told Vanity Fair.

In the article, she also addressed why she had not included the Cosby allegations in her memoir published last year.

Ms Johnson said she feared a 'he-said/she-said' scenario but now felt the time was right to come forward. She also said that she no longer feared damaging the African-American community by making her allegations against Cosby.

She added: 'He brought this on himself when he decided he had the right to have his way with who knows how many women over the last four decades.'

She was on the view today....quite compelling account of what happened...that phone call to Bill when Camille answered the phone was a turning point for her...part of me feels sorry for Camille...but a smart woman knows when the man she is with is not towing the line

The more that comes out the more I think this is complete b.s. and that a lot of people are attaching the crimes of others to this one. The minute they start throwing numbers like 100 million dollars around it becomes very telling
