All CrossFit, All the Time!

HAHAHA...my CF coach has a saying...'CrossFit is for everyone, but not everyone is for CrossFit'...and I think that applies to everything. I have several friends like you that are avid soccer players and things like that... they love it. :) That's why I'm glad there are a lot of sports out there. Options are important, although Im' finding these options are starting to become as difficult to talk about as politics! LOL

If you all see me lifting more than 100 lbs, slap the hell out of me. Lol

I just thought it was interesting to post that's all since this was a fitness related thread.

Also LOL @ Crossfit not being dangerous. I will stick with the knowledge of Olympic Weightlifters on this topic.

Could pick this apart but people will think I'm trolling.

errr can't resist...

Improper shoes for weight bearing exercises:

Re: Atlas stone over the head. WHOA slow down. Improper form. Don't want to injure yourself. My prejudice against Crossfit is the relatively safe exercises they bastardize and somehow turn them into unsafe exercises and think they are OK.

A professional would not allow this. But hey, when Crossfit charges up to $125 a month who cares really?

I WILL say I do like how Crossfit incorporates metabolic conditioning into workouts, but IMHO they do it wrong.

I like how he mentions how advanced lifts should NOT be introduced into metabolic programming since they are not designed for that.

Goes into a bit of linear periodization and programming.

You ARE trolling. Now, get the fuck out of my thread and go whine about that girl you can't decide to let go of for months and let the adults talk. FFS. When i want the opinion of some uneducated internet douche over my coaches, who are both certified chiropractors, nutritionists, CrossFit coaches, marathoners, ultra marathoners, and death race survivors, I'll be sure to look you up. Until then, make your own thread and be obnoxious over there. Seriously.

Crossfit gets no luv

Damn

I actually but I havent drank the koolaid like baby girl lol. I do agree with one thing thogh crossfit is a business and I doubt theyd have people doing exercises that would injure them and prevent them from working out. It makes no sense. We have a tendacy to let the few misfortunes become the main point of conversation. Can you get injured? Yeah but like most exercise programs thats the risk of working out

You deal with Crossfit AFFILIATES which may be qualified professionals but crossfit as a whole is horrible periodization and people follow it blindly. Maybe you are dealing with an affiliate who do not adhere to Crossfit which the former Crossfit affiliate above advise
Those "elite athletes" in crossfit were elite athletes in other sports before coming to crossfit. All you are doingis attacking me with ad homenims when I have more training knowledge (and deal with more training professionals) than you have. I have said there are things that Crossfit does good but many approaches to it aren't good.

Its not uncommon for trainers to teach things improperly. You see trainers teach incorrect squat form which in the interim is "OK" to do but is actually bad for on;g term knee and joint health.

The fitness industry has these when a new product or something promises results people want. Same with he supplement industry which isn't regulated either.

Also Huntress you are reaffirming what many people believe Crossfit is which many believe is an elitist fitness cult. I've constructively critiqued it and all you have retorted with is ad homenims and insulted my knowledge even though I have constructed well thought out arguments.

Hi all!

I know that Blacktiger started a thread in 2010 asking about CrossFit, but I figured this one would be different.

Come here to talk about CrossFit, whether to share your workouts, wax poetic, post PRs, or what have you. :)

You know how it is...

Question....What can I do to train my wrists to allow me to do Olympic style front squats? Right now, I dont have the range in my wrists to hold the bar.

Max, I'm by no means an expert, but had some trouble and they had me do some mobility work where you turn your hands out and put them flat on the floor, wrists away. It helps stretch that area. I am sure you could google it beside CrossFit has lots of videos to help people with all sorts of challenges.

Why google when we have you?

Honestly wrist flexibility for Olympic lifts is something that develops over time. When I was doing O Lifts I sometimes had to wear wrist wraps for my heavy singles.

This might help some

PFft!! I assume you're joking, smart alec. ;)

And finally, an article about wrist mobility, from the fine people at CrossFit Invictus (it should be noted, they're an Olympic Weightlifting Club).

Tips for Improved Wrist Mobility
Written by Nichole DeHart

Lack of wrist mobility can be the limiting factor for many of our members in movements like cleans and front squats. I usually hear comments like ‘my wrists feel like they are going to break’ or ‘there is piercing pain shooting up my forearm.’ These are statements that I would prefer not to hear from an athlete. However, your poor wrist mobility (and more than likely, your accompanying poor thoracic mobility/posture) can be caused by many factors, such as typing at your keyboard all day and checking Facebook too often. If you can’t break your Facebook habit then here are some sure fire ways to improve your wrist mobility:

1) Wrist Rotations. This is very basic. Wrap your fingers together and move your wrists around in every possible direction. Hold any position that feels a little tender/limited for a few seconds. Repeat often throughout the day.

2) Planche Push Up Position. Get into a plank position (elbows fully extended at the top of the push up). Turn your hands inward so your fingertips are pointing toward your toes. Keeping a rigid torso, shift your body forward so you have an angle from your shoulders to wrists. Hold this position for 20-30 seconds (or as long as you can bear) and repeat. If this is too intense, drop down to your knees and complete.

3) Front Squat Rack Position. If this position is bothering you as you front squat, chances are you need to get your wrists working through the range of motion required for a front squat. It is not your wrists holding the bar in place, it is your shoulders but . . . you need good wrist mobility to get that heavy bar sitting correctly on top of your shoulders. Load a bar on a desired rack setting. Set up in a rack position, with your elbows pointing as far forward as possible and weight sitting on your shoulders. Pick up the bar and rotate your elbows forward, then re rack the bar. Repeat this process until you see a change in your rack position.

4) Static Holds. Pull your wrist back into extension and/or flexion and hold for at least 20-30 seconds.

5) Wrist Walks. I just discovered this drill and love it. Place your palms on a wall, with your arms straight and fingers pointing to the ceiling. Keeping contact with the wall, walk your hands down the wall. Go as far down as possible without letting your palms come off the wall. Once you reach the point where you can’t walk your hands down any farther, turn your hands around so your fingers are now pointing to the floor. Walk your wrists back up the wall as far upward as possible. Repeat as desired.

6) Check Your Keyboard. Get your wrists in a neutral position when typing! Check out Invictus extraordinaire Cynthia Lumley’s article on a standing work desk.

Enjoy these drills and I wish you good wrist health! If you have other wrist drills that have helped you improve your wrist mobility then please post them to the comments section.

Can't post a video from my nexus but if someone funds rippetoes video non bar grip, please do. A very informative video for ripped calluses and something anyone that lifts should see.
And anyone that lifts heavy stuff and put it down should invest in a foam roller so you can do your own myofascial release.
