Another cover "controversy":Essence Takes Heat For Reggie Bush Cover

I was reading about the Reggie Bush/Essence Magazine controversy at another site and this link was provided.

I started reading the posts and became interested enough to reply.

So, why are you here?

Seeing as the site is whitewomenblackmen.com and I'm a black man, it seems fitting.

Stop buckdancing for that hater...lol

You're in the wrong place if you agree with that garbage.
You may not believe this, but I quoted the wrong person. My bad. :-|

Meant to quote Tony's "GTFO" gif, but wasn't paying attention and quoted the quote he quoted, rather than Tony's post.

Taking bets right now there will be no link.
One of the rules of the internet is "pics, or it didn't happen".

So, yeah, screencaps, or it didn't happen.

And if you don't know how to take a screenshot of your screen, Tapdancingfool, it's the "printscroll" button, towards the top of the keyboard.

I think Kim Kardashian is a beautiful woman and despite the fact that I'm usually annoyed with people who are famous for being famous, she seems like a genuinely sweet person.

That being said, she doesn't have some monopoly on charm, beauty or allure. And neither I nor any of the black women I know envy anything she has except perhaps her money. None of my friends are angry or territorial. None of us are lacking for high quality male companionship. We don't need fixing.

Guys, why do you call out people who make unfair assumptions about your taste in women when you make sweeping assumptions about black women yourselves?

Yes, there are stupid black people who try to tell others who to love or want. But if these are the only people you encounter, you need to get out more.

I'm sorry, it doesn't work like that, while there might have been some Black men (and women) upset by her role in that movie and the fact she won an oscar for it (to put it better, that the AA''s would give her and Denzel awards for "negative" roles), if Halle were to dump her model baby daddy, do you honestly think Black men would stay away?

If she were put on a Black mens magazine, we would be to busy looking at the pictures to even bother to get upset like the essence readers did over Reggie. Fine is fine, and going with a White man doesn't make an attractive Black woman any less so, and I say this for the Black men who only/mostly go with with Black women. Plus, they know Halle was with Black men for years, I doubt Essence readers care about the prior relationships of the Black men who are now with White Women. No BM here should be crazy enough to care and they realize she is half White anyway.

I probably shouldn't have said 'they' but many black men than people realize don't like Kerry or Halle anymore now that they've been with "crackas". They'll still look at the pictures though, lol. I agree, caring about who's dating who is more of a chick thing.

Black men's magazines have non Black women on the cover all the time and Men's magazines in general don't really focus on love and monogamy. The celebration of "Black love" and unfaithful endogamy seems to be only attractive to Black women, who out marry less than any group.

I think we can all agree that Essence knew having Reggie Bush on the cover would stir up controversy.

P.S I had no idea Tatiana Ali was with a white man, I would be too busy looking at her pics to she if she still looked good to worry about who she was with.

I remember she had a white love interest in her music video 'Daydreaming' I think it was called.

Yes Tatyana Ali mostly dates whites boys, the scruffy kind too sometimes. But I still like her like most BM do.

Again, because they're women, people don't think of whom they are dating are married to. Its just the men. When I see or think of Kerry Washington I think of those scenes from "I Think I Love My Wife" :prayer: Not her apparent like for white boys.

Yeah, but still doesn't make it right. And clearly shows a double standard.

Tatiana is SO delicious.

lippy finds it interesting that this is supposed to be the big relationship issue and that is why bw find having reggie on the cover so disturbing...why are they not upset about:

SECRET SEX VACATIONS - if the magazine issue is all about black love and relationships then why not a scandal about sex vacations?

GOING FROM BROKE TO BLESSED - if lippy were a bw i would be outraged that the magazine was basically saying that most bw are broke ass women that need to get their act together financially

do i need to go on...pick your battles ladies...especially if you are going to come here and defend yourselves on stupid shit:smt018

Actually quite a few women HAVE been saying that Essence has been an irrelevant publication for years. People were particularly upset that one recent article suggested that women go looking for men in strip clubs. This cover was by no means the only thing that was annoying to many women. Not by a long shot.

Racialicious and several other sites had some thoughtful and reasoned commentary on the cover and the mag in general.

And what is and isn't stupid is pretty subjective.

Link, or shadafuggup.

man we are popular...everyone is always wanting to read what we have to say...we should start charging admission:-P

You know if they are staring in the street, they are damn sure lurking/trolling on this site and that's one of the reasons we probably haven't seen a link yet.

Some want to preserve the "Black Women don't really care" defense (Blood pressure monitors would indicate otherwise) and then counter that with the "Black men care as much, or would care if Black women started dating White Men".

You've seen that argument used in this thread and I don't know if it's true, if (BW outdated/married more) but certainly up to this point, BW have been more vocal than BM in their dislike of IR. The various Black forums and the comments from BET that were posted here are evidence, and I'm sure this link would show some more of that and further destroy the "We don't really care" defense.. She's also probably concerned that we might harass the forum or she might be seen as betraying some level of confidence.
