Woah there! How about we remember the first entertainment bloodsports - in Ancient Greece and ROME no less, so what the hell has this to do with the UK or the US? And isn't bullfighting Spanish!?
Can't say I'm down with it myself...or hunting...but it might die itself out in a few years time anyway. The UK certainly does have a different opinion to many other nations on blood sports, animal rights are ingrained into our laws as well as society's opinion, so many pressure groups and non profit groups are around to preserve the rights of man's best friend, in the biggest nation of dog and cat lovers in the world. Of course it's all relative and culturally subjective, and I've never really had much of an issue myself about EATING animals (one aspect to animal rights). The world is, after all, made up of a giant food chain which isn't entirely constructed of grains and mushrooms...tigers, lions and sharks would happily eat me and in return I'm happy to eat farm animals who have been bred for that purpose. But standing watching a sport where animals will die? That's an altogether different matter, not just because of the simple fact of killing animals but because of its pointlessness: why are they having to die? Why are they having to go through pain? Don't they have any dignity? At the end of the day, like it or not, if anyone was involved in a plane crash and one of the crew died, he would probably get eaten somewhere on a desert island...because even humans are meat to be eaten...but would you dress him up, parade him around, torture him and then kill him to be left to the jackals? I think not, and neither are animals the rightful object of our sport. Bullfighting definitely comes into this category: I appreciate that some people feel it's artistic, or incredibly skilled, and the fighters are certainly brave, but I think it's brutal and horrid for all of that - along with fox hunting, bearbaiting, etc etc...
