History just keeps repeating itself, doesn't it?

Personally, I think it's half and half. The government is only taking advantage of the controversial situation to their benefit.

Mexicans don't have an unfair advantage; Businesses do when they negotiate wages with the legal workforce because they have this underground supply of labor. The government is responsible for maintaining law and order in the streets and in the labor market. That's one reason we pay so much friggin tax. If businesses are committing crimes, the government is supposed to enforce the law and prosecute them. It keeps capitalism focused on fulfilling the markets needs instead of fulfilling people's greed. It is the moderating force.

    Good post, choco.

Personally, I'm against amnesty for illegals, since it would benefit one group of immigrants over another. There are plenty of immigrants that don't have the convenience of walking over the border; who have to approach immigration the legal way. Plus, legals don't "bid down" the wages as much.

You folks who are for some "guest worker" and amnesty program should think twice, since as soon as it's in place you'll find immigrants pouring in from asian countries (many of which are poorer than mexico), "bidding down" wages for jobs that have nothing to do with construction or farm work...

    ---

But back to topic -- I think static between blacks and mexicans is about as stupid as it gets.

I bet it's being engineered, probably by both their media and ours.

It goes like this: corporate america needs the cheap labor of the new wave of illegals and complacent mexican immigrants, but don't want mexicans to begin to identify politically w/ the (relative) assertiveness of black folks in the way that some mexicans have in the past... And the vincente foxes of mexico are happy to see these little indian people go -- it takes the heat off the vincente fox class...

...So the people who pull the strings pit mexicans against blacks, the same way they've pitted other immigrant groups against us in the past, even in the recent past.

    ---

Anyway, static between blacks and mexicans is as stupid as it gets, and I wouldn't promote it or participate in it any more than I would black-on-black static...
