You must talk to people in the fields that interest you and you want to start joining organizations that you are interested in. I am part of about 2 organizations that cater to what I am interested in. I joined Gamasutra (
www.gamasutra.com) because it is geared for those in 3D, animating, video game design, and stuff related to that. Another organization called AIGA,which stands for American Institution for Graphics Artists (
www.aiga.com) is geared for those who are into graphic design, web design, flash design, and stuff of that nature. AIGA is "THA BOMB" but you have to pay $200 a year to get the REAL benefits of being a part of them. When you pay the fee. You get discounts on software and other perks. It lets you network with other people who are designers on the kind of radar map that lets you see who is in your field and people who are experienced. These people can help you get jobs that are not advertised yet. I am currently updating my own site and will show it to you sometime. ......
