I've dealt with that issue myself before, but I've learned to tell when it's just the lust factor & I don't let myself go there anymore...even when I really, really want to.

I think we've all fallen victim to this at some point, but it's good that you have the foresight and insight to know what's going on. It's exciting, so sometimes it's hard to to not get swept into it.

To me there is a huge difference between being in love, loving someone and being in lust. I have been in all 3.

I was never in love with my husband, but I loved him. We made it work 20 years. I have been in love twice, and I am in love now. Being in love is tough. My boyfriend and I are on round 3. We decide to try it again because we are in love and really want to be together for the rest of our lives. He was ready for it before me. It is a concious choice to be with one person and forsake all others so to speak. I discovered that there is nobody else I would rather be with and vice versa.

Lust is just physical, and now I have realized that I can control lust because being in love is way better

I haven't read all the replies, but I think it could be love or just prolonged lust. Sometimes we go into a relationship with several expectations and come out disappointed cause it's not what we were looking for. I think some people are in love with the idea of being "in love" and some people are also co-dependent and have a hard time being alone. I know 3 people like this. Who go from the ex to the next.

I also think a lot of people jump into relationships too soon without knowing the person and again, they set themselves up for disappointment thinking it's always going to be in the honeymoon stage. If people got to know their potential (and this is the keyword) partner better, there would be less breakups and divorces.

I have had a few relationships. But, I can honestly say that I have been in love only two times. The relationships were never meant to be. I have not seen either one of the ladies in years. However, in spite of time & distance apart, I will always care for them and wish them well. I think a person is in love when you really want nothing but happiness for their beloved, even when it is apparent that you are not the one to provide or enhance the beloved's happiness. I think selflessness is a huge component of love.

Absolutely agree.

You know, it took having my daughter for me to truly realize the difference between just love and being in love. Even when my daughter is being a complete and utter brat, I love her more than anything in the world. I may not LIKE her very much at that moment, but her actions haven't stopped me loving her.

And I feel like if it's truly love, you can have fights and make up and everything is okay. Just like jayarmy said: even if you're fighting with your beloved, you'd still fight anyone else to the death to protect them. That's when you know that the love you feel is something special.

And no, I don't think people truly have those feelings for everyone that they enter into a relationship with.

Love is truly a complicated beast. LOL.
