I would highly recommend taking an African-American History class to many of BM(and non-black men/women) in America. I have come to understand that the reason the U.S. Academic System has taught many Americans that the Greek nation discovered math, physics, etc. is because they feed us information from a Eurocentric point-of-view. Because if it were Afrocentric or multi-cultural, the U.S. Academic System would require we know the first math was done in Egypt(where black people once lived). Hence, the ancient pyramids of Egypt.

Which leads me to a further discussion: there's never any black people as leading characters in films that are based on Egypt. hmmm???? For example, Cleopatra, or even biblical movies.

That is a really good discussion so I will get things going....There are many reasons why whites are often portrayed as Egyptians in movies. The old movies are kind of understandable just because you didn't have many blacks in Hollywood getting the juicier roles with white casts. But even now the trend continues. For one thing...many whites themselves don't even realize that the original Egyptians were fairly dark...not as dark as their Nubian neighbors but the Nubians were akin to black Sudanese in skin color and most Africans I've seen don't even approach that. Egyptians were intermixed with Nubian and Hittite (something like Turkish) so in artwork that they made you would often see rulers who varied from dark to somewhat light in complexion. Most Europeans during colonial times started to realize Egypts' accomplishments and their own inability to see that blacks were capable of such feats made them seek alternative answers to who created this high civilization. They attributed it to Greeks, Romans etc. even though these groups learned a lot of concepts about medicine etc. from the people of the Nile. Lets not forget though that Africa had many other advanced civilizations besides Egypt...namely Songhai and Mali (I'm sure that something is being left out). The Eurocentric ideologies were predicated on the fact that European way of life was superior (in the past and present) to all other forms on this earth and any deviation of that had to be explained as some fluke or a result of white intervention. Egypt lasted for 5 millenia...not five hundred years...FIVE MILLENIA...5,000 years. Chinese civilization has spanned 5,000 years as well...so I don't think they stand to learn many lessons from Europe. Most of the world was pretty advanced when Europe was still "dark." As I have stated in an earlier post...Europeans considered Arabs to be uncivilized despite the fact that they (Arabs) took regular baths (meaning more than once a year) and had moved past the superstition of witchcraft and other hocus-pocus that Christian Europe could not shake until the 16th and 17th centuries. There was recent evidence...in some textbook of mine...that there was a city made of stone structures that dates back at least 5+ centuries in southern Africa I believe....but how often will you hear about that. I believe in the saying that "whoever wins the wars gets to write history." Western civilization has been the most dominant over the last 450 years so they can tailor the history books to downplay any contributions of people they see as opposition to their power. There was one story that I'm not sure I believe but it was about Napoleon and that when he saw the Great Sphinx's broad nose...he shot it down because it resembled an African and not a European as his people had been taught to believe. That sounds wacky but I would not dismiss it. Anyway a major problem that has to be addressed is the fact that most Egyptians now, despite being proud of their heritage refuse to accept their African blood. Most of them look very Arabic...but that mixing only came about well AFTER the fall of Egypt. The spread of Islam came about in the 6th and 7th centuries, but Egypt was at its height thousands of years before Christ was born...and Christ was born centuries before Islamic conquest!!!! As long as they deny their heritage...they will only make it easier for Europeans to deny the role that blacks had in creating one of the world's most impressive civilizations. As it is now...people think Egypt is not even in Africa but is merely southwestern Saudi Arabia. Ironic that Africa is always credited with producing anything negative (see AIDS, even though gay white men contracting it in the U.S. in the late 70's and early 80's and straight men and women contracting it in the late 80's in Africa seems like an unlikely exchange) but anything positive must come from an outside source...the only continent that is that maligned. :smt066

I'm fairly sure that my books about Egypt in school also had pictures of ancient Egyptians, clearly coloured white...it's shocking.

Yes....the Hittites came from Central Asia (Turkey) during one of the dynasties and ruled for more than two centuries at least. Some of the Egyptians were dark, some reddish brown, and some nearly white looking in appearance. The white ones were the invaders and technically they are Middle Eastern if anything else. The problem is that these are the only ones they tend to show when describing Egyptians..and many history teachers go out of their way to make Egyptian history apart of Greek and Roman history as opposed to AFRICAN history.

I was agreeing with Inera based on your responses about how blacks are being close-minded about this and being hypocritical about that, but you not mentioning the close-minded hypocrisies of whites in your one sided argument, along with all the posts/threads you make about 'wanting white girls so bad' this and 'acting black' that, and 'feeling alienated by other blacks more than whites' despite the racism you've encountered, this and that. Your identity crisis is super weird, LOL. You obsess over what's white and what's black all the time, but then you put down other blacks more than whites because of how you feel about relating to other blacks. Makes no sense.

    You're projecting again.

Re-read your post yourself. You WERE defending the hypocrisies of whites and condemning blacks for theirs, in your post about Andrew Dice Clay, Elvis, and Eminem, and then you write more whiny responses and threw tantrums about what I read from it, how I 'misinterpreted' this and that, when I'm not the only one who can see it, along with how I feel about myself, you, and what I intended to do in this topic. Shows how intelligent you are, especially if you can't see your own mistakes in an argument versus several other people's input on it.

Throughout this message, all you did was whine about what words I put in your mouth, when from reading your posts, you need to learn to be careful about what words you use, especially if all you can do is tell me that I'm doing this and that, but then do it yourself, and then throw a hissy fit at the same time, and then exaggerate what you think I said, like a moron with a nervous condition repeatedly. Get off your high horse now. Writing this post basically confirms all that I've said, and that you couldn't tell your own fingers from your toes in the dark.

I never told you what your thread was about, for your information. You threw a hissy fit, perceiving what you thought I told you, and you're still doing it, so before you decide to comment on what I supposedly told you again, make sure that you actually read what I say before you address it, and then claim I misunderstood you, OK?

What is your deal with how people 'act' anyway? What's acting black or white supposed to be?

To put it simply man, white guilt(over slavery and among other things) let's all this happen. Add that to the fact that you can get some whites to do anything you want them to by simply whispering racist in their direction and you get a simple answer. We(blacks) do some racist stuff in entertainment and real life that, if it were on the other side of tracks, we'd be ready to call in the naacp. We have some 'black leaders' that use white guilt for exploitation purposes. Jesse Jackson is one of them. If there were a white Jesse Jackson, he'd be run out of the country.

I personally don't really like when I'm watching television and whites are called cracker(or some other derogatory term). It makes me feel uncomfortable. Just as hearing someone call a brother a n****r.

There is a serious double standard on racism in this country. Just like there's a serious double standard on interracial dating, like the fact that black women will complain that white women are stealing all the black men away but brothers have been dating asians and latinas for god knows how long. Last time I checked, asians and latinas weren't black, and yet they weren't stealing? Puff Daddy marries Jennifer Lopez and nobody says jack. Clarence Thomas marries Virginia Thomas and a top rated black magazine calls it his total denial of his being black. It seems to me that it's a minority issue. A brother will not catch hell as long as he dates within the minority. If he dates into the majority(ie white), then people view him as a sellout. It's crazy. Dubble Standerd!!!!

Now, have blacks suffered dearly at the hands of whites? Yes. Are race relations improving in this country? Yes. If you look at how things were 10 years before the civil rights bill was passed and now it gives you a good feeling. The thing is, some people think that society will come to a point where it will be racism-free, so the instant they see someone(probably white) do something even remotely racist(even if they misunderstood and the s*it wasn't racist at all), they scream bloody murder.

I personally wouldn't want anything to do with someone that's cluttered up in guilt. It's not that serious. For one thing, while Europeans were collecting slaves in Africa, some of our ancestors were right alongside them. Some of us are very likely direct descendants of individuals who made a business of literally selling their brethren out. And another thing, every white person in America does not have a lineage that owned slaves. If I'm not mistaken, didn't the Irish, for example, come to America after slavery had started? And a lot of them were too poor to even think about owning slaves? I might be wrong. I haven't read about this in a while. I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong.

But what I'm getting at is this, we will never get rid of racism. I'm just being a realist. Why won't we? Because it's human nature. Even if everyone got along in the USA, we'd still be looking down on somebody collectively. Particularly individuals from poorer countries than us. We'd see them on television or something and some of us would say they're savages.

I think I did a little unnecessary rant here. But it's good to get my feelings out in the open. I'd love some input.

P.S. It's like we want to live in a racism-free or at least less race-conscious society, but we're not willing to meet each other halfway.

amen to that mp, i hear tons of racist things out of black folks mouth too. on this Lifetime program last night with Raven Simone, the blacks were calling whites insults while I didnt hear whites use the N word once.

What kind of program was that anyway?

And, just so you know, whites are in charge of over 90% of what you see on TV, that includes BET and UPN, so all this stuff about blacks being racist on TV needs to be taken up with the ones who allow it to push their 'privilege' and 'pure savior' agenda, and you know who that is.
