What makes YOU approach a women?

This is why I've never approached a guy, I seriously could not deal with it. I know that sounds a bit sad but it would upset me. I wouldn't say I have particularly low self esteem but I'm just totally afraid of rejection.

I just wait for the guy to speak to me, hoping that he does. If he doesn't then I don't get hurt.
I understand.

I guess with me, I became better at it when I started losing weight and exercising. I used to weigh 280 lbs.. I was able to lose that and bring my weight down to 215 lbs.. When I did that, I became more confident in myself and began to see myself as more attractive to women. I know some may see it as superficial, but it was really important to me. The first thing we see in other people is their outward appearance. I felt that if I could change my body and my appearance, then that would give me much more confidence to talk to a women. If she's not interested in me, that's okay. I'll just try again

I think it depends on the individuals and what they find attractive. I've had men approach me before that I thought were ok as far as physical appearance. But after talking to them I find them to be some of the most attractive men I've ever met.

By the way, I'm new and this was my first post :)

Might sound weird, but I always say either "hello" or "how ya doin?" to most of the attractive women I see, and I follow through with my approach depending on how she answers. If it's a dry "I'm all right", I know she's really not interested or having a bad day and I move on. but if she returns my greeting with a smile and a little enthusiasm in her voice, then I proceed with striking up a conversation. Usually with an attempt of making a joke. Usually this works
