Why can't successful black women get married?

On April 9th, ABC news nightline relived a topic first introduced and moderated by Lindsey Davis back in Dec. 2009. She is a black women reporter working for ABC news. "Why can't successful black women get married." 42% of black women are not married, compared to 23% of white women. 71% of black women professionals are not married. Those are the ones who are successful with advanced degrees. Sherri Shepherd from the View, Hill Harper from CSI, and Steve Harvey were in the panel for a 3 hour discussion. At one point, Lindsey introduced the topic, "How many black men do we lose to other races?". Sherry indicated that if you are a black man and exclusively dating only other races that is wrong. If you happen to find someone while dating all races, then it is okay.

apparently men around here are alot more interested in bw then they would like us to believe...how many wm threads do we have...what? there is nothing to count? really? is it any wonder bw come here...they love knowing that you all are talking about them...thinking about them...you might as well be dating and marrying them...i get the impression some of you like ww for the wrong reason...it shouldn't be because you don't like bw:smt009

I don't think that's at all fair

  • This thread was started by someone with only 15 posts, hardly a reg or someone who can be held up as representative of the Men here
  • The last thread started about this was flamed by most of the Men for exactly the reason that they wanted to focus more on White Women
  • The topic in question is about a tv special that only ran last week, in which they talked specifically about interracial relationships and their impact on Black Women. On an interracial board, national negative attention to interracial relationships is bound to be brought up
  • When they have an ABC special that touches repeatedly on the negative impact WW dating BM has on White Men, I have every confidence that the number of threads about WM would be comparable.

Damn Chi great post. I don't understand we can totally agree on one topic but tottally disagree on another topic. Hope we find middle ground at some point but I like the way your mind works ma.

i will have to disagree with you on the spectrum of bm here posting...i see quite a few of them getting in their jabs about black women...i have to tell you that i have rarely dated a bm that even mentions bw other than his mother and how fabulous she is...and then it's "my mother" "my sister" "my daughter" not bw this...bw women that...seems very time consuming and not very productive...

The "Black Women Issue" as I'm calling it has two majors aspects.
1. Black women are by far the number one agitators/haters of our coupling.
2. To some Black men, Black women generally have become intolerable partners.

No.1 is an issue for me because I have to deal with it.
No.2 is not an issue because I've generally only dealt with non BW, but face it, many of the BM on here are now with WW because they have had bad experiences with BW; they come with sistabaggage.

The Garcelle story was no more about Black women than the Jesse James story was about White men....

Xoxo you've made some good points and I hate to jump in but the Jill scott article specifically dealt with relationships we have all been in or hope to be in. She took a shot at those of us who choose to date interracially so I think it perfectly fits subject matter for this site. Its not ww and bm kiss each others asses all days. Yes there are threads for praise but there are also threads for other topics.

actually i think it's only fair to point out that the women here stayed on topic with jesse...it was all about what he did to sandra...it wasn't wm this and wm that...we know better than to group them together as a whole because one person is not a representation of an entire group

i don't love and prefer to be with black men because i hate wm...i am more attracted to black men...they catch my eye...it's my internal radar...i can appreciate a good looking white, asian, hispanic man but my mouth doesn't water the same way when i see a bm that i am attracted to...

i understand that the bm have to deal with the bw issue and it must not be fun being dogged in the media all the time...quite frankly you all don't have to defend yourselves to the ww here so perhaps you all are hoping that bw do come here to read about your outrage...

when bw talk badly about bm as a whole...what i hear is the charlie brown teacher...just noise...

It should be that simple, but we try not to look for haters...they find us. Some of us just have to be the bigger and better men and not stoop to their levels.

I thought this was an open forum if people decide to make threads about things you don't like don't read them. I think we as bm on this site discuss a real issue on our everyday lives when we talk about how many bw love to bash bm. Its an enormously big issue because it helps to shape national perception of bm. It shapes the way we are dehumanized as sexually crazed unintelligent animals who can only be loyal to our dicks. If airing frustration helps keeping some of us from going crazy what's the harm.
Lippy you stated that you don't bash wm, well I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that wm don't generally bash ww. Wm don't openly insult you everytime the subject of dating or cohabitation comes up. Ww are also coveted in this country, bm are only praised for achievements in sports and entertainment your mere existance is praise worthy so I don't expect you to get it. Also I said before we have plenty of threads that express our deep appreciation and love for ww so if four threads come up talking about something else just don't read it. Be a grown up and keep it moving.
