WORST Cities for IR Dating

Macon, Georgia: My ex-girlfriend of 3 years is from the south and grew up down there. Before she moved here to NY and met me, she never even KNEW a black person before. Well anyways, she moved back down there after we broke up and I visited her there this past June. Man did I feel out of place! I did not see ONE black person! NOT ONE!!!!! I felt like people were waiting to lynch me just cuz i was with her. I felt like a celebrity, everyone constantly staring at me. I'd never live down there. The weather was nice and the southern accents the women had (my ex had one too :lol: ) were AMAZING but I couldnt wait to get the heck outta there and back to NY where a black guy can walk down the street and not bee looked on as a criminal or animal.

Eagle, Colorado: One word...KOBE! LOL He's my fave basketball player and when in july 2003 that whole rape case came out between him and that 19 year old blonde hotel worker i did some research on the city and MAN are they racist! If you are black and want a white chick, DO NOT go there EVER! (In fact no matter what race guy you are, stay away from Colorado girls. All they do is cry rape. Look at the Colorado football university scandal. Why didn't those girls press charges or testify in court? Why didn't the young woman accusing Kobe of rape go forward with her case?)

Wilmington, South Carolina: One of THE MOST racist places on earth. You see rebel flags everywhere and KKK guys patrol the streets like its fun.

Salt Lake City, Utah: Mormon town. What more can i say?

Anybody else know any AWFUL cities in the U.S. for interracial dating?
 
I think that most places you travel to will have some of these elements. A lot of it depends on where you are from. Where I'm from (the South) whites don't seem to be any more racist than people up North its just that down here they are more comfortable showing their displeasure towards anything different (this applies more to rural areas). When you come from a place like NYC or even London, I gather that people tend to mind their own business but in smaller towns everything is everyone's business. They may not always be awestruck by your blackness or the whiteness of your companion......indeed in a lot of cases it could be the way you dress, hairstyle, or accent. Its hard to fathom even for me but I believe it can be true...most folks down there are certainly aware of your color but the attention they focus on you can come from the many things that you display that they are not accustomed to seeing.

PeyBackTime8818, I used to live in Macon, GA before moving to Atlanta and I have to say that if Macon is one of the worst places in America for IR dating, then a brother doesn't have much to worry about in America. I don't know what part of Macon you visited, but I don't see how you could not have seen one black person there, especially considering the fact that Macon's population is about 62% black!

I went to Macon for Thanksgiving and I'm looking forward to going there to see my parents on Christmas. I love Macon, but I live in Atlanta because there are more financial opportunities here. Macon is small but there are white girls at Wesleyan College (an all girls school) and Mercer University there that are into black men. If you visit the Macon Mall, which is a nice-sized mall for a town of Macon's stature, you will see just as many IR couples there as you see in Atlanta. I actually think it's easier to meet ww there than in Atlanta. Atlanta has a tendency to be segregated and phony.

Now I'm not saying that Macon is the ideal place for IR dating, but it's certainly not as bad as you make it out to be. However, with you coming from New York, which is one of the most diverse places in the world, Macon must have been a extreme culture shock for you. Most of the people I've met there are friendly, so if they treated you differently, it must have been more because you were a Yankee than the fact that you are a bm. A northern accent really stands out in Macon, even though there are a many New Yorkers living in Atlanta.

My brother, who has been living in Brooklyn, New York for the past decade, brought his then-girlfriend to Macon one Christmas holiday and she loved it down there. She was originally from Barbados and she said that Macon reminded here of home because there were so many trees near houses and people said hello to her as she walked down the street. Before they broke up, she was thinking about moving to Georgia because she liked her visit to Macon so much.

I doubt that I will ever move back there, though; if anything I want to move to a city that's larger and not as superficial as Atlanta. And that leads me to my nomination for a bad city for IR dating: Atlanta. Yes, there is a lot of it going on here, but believe me, there are plenty of wm and bw who absolutely detest it. Anytime many of them see a bm just sharing conversations with a ww, eyes begin to roll, faces turn steaming red, and some will try to butt in on your conversation in an attempt to disrupt it. The ATL is very segregated as close to 70% of the city's population is black, but when you factor in the suburban population, metro Atlanta has a majority white population. And even though Atlanta is only an average-sized major city, it has one of the worst traffic congestion problems in the USA. But still, many of the suburbanites don't want mass transit to extend to the suburbs because they say that mass transit brings the criminal element out there. So even though there is a lot of IR sex going on, there is an underlying current of racial disapproval here.

i am from the soutb, south carolina to be exact and there is not wilmington south carolina, its wilmington nc and i would like to see what source you got that kkk roam the streets. indiana, pennsylvania and new jersey record more racism and racist groups than does macon georgia. California and New York lead the country in hate crimes--go to the website, www.splc.org southerner poverty law center does all the recording and surveilance of hate groups-- have been a paying member for 10 years.

i cant believe you went to Macon and did not see one black person, the south is nothing but black folk and macon is populated with more blacks than whites.

Kobe in Eagle Colorado didnt get what Abner Dialo got in New York--raped with a broom stick by police; or Howard beach or jones beach, or the subway murders, or bensonhurst. we had here in Philly a major kkk rally last year, ohio had one last week, and a major race riot, there are attacks on people of color all over the north and the South is no more racist than any place in the north. Salt Lake City, ha ha ha, try Boston(considered the most racist city in America since the 1970s by Ebony magazine and racism statistics).

you should go back and check out macon again, there are so many black folks there its a shame--ha ha ha

i am geechie gullah from coastal SC, i can tell you we got more of us than you can shake a stick at--and we are doing just fine with whites, no better no worse than the north.. IN fact blacks are doing the reverse migration coming back home where prices of homes are cheaper and where life is so much easier.
 
Everyone's experiences aren't the same, so I'll have to say it all depends, but I would stay out of Orlando, FL, Savannah, GA, Cincinnati, OH, and pretty much anywhere in states like Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
 
wow, i am going to my home in SC in a few days for Christmas, my wife who is white and I, go to Savannah all the time, it is a nice place. we enjoy our time in the south as it is my home town.

Memphis and Nashville and Gatlinburg are fun too. I would agree with you on Alabama, but orlando florida welcomes so many IR couples to disney world, and i hever heard any complaints. Louisville and Lexington are ok but perfect though.

I guess some cities have changed ever since I've been to them. At first, I swore to never go back to myself...

and, SPLC is a cool site. I read it a lot, some of the things I read in it are quite disturbing, like white supremacists pimping one another in prison, along with being heavy drug-addicts.
 
ok. that stuff is not disturbing to me, as much as the mainstream society is blind to it. that stuff has been going on in prison for a very long time, and the KKK and other organizations are fronts for those kinds of things on the outside too.

I dont know the last time you were in savannah or those southern cities but things are no different than they are up north, especially in the equivalent same sized city. Savannah or Atlanta for that matter are not the size of New York or Phlly or Boston so we cant compare them. We compare similar sized cities and we see that the hate crimes and racism are not any more prevalent in southern cities as they are in northern cities.

you should really read Mark Mathabane's book "Love in black and white" they are two ivy league grads who move to North Carolina and fit right in as an IR couple in a small southern town. it is not a fiction book
 
yep, thats my point and thats what the SPLC has documented over the many years, the most dangerous places are in northern suburbs and cities

Following the axe murder of a young black male in the Liverpool area (who was with his white girlfriend at the time) I'd say that Liverpool is not too good for IR at the moment!

There has always been friction in the Leeds area, mostly Pakistanis v everyone else, and the same in Manchester areas. Some parts of South London are dodgy too.

Come to Portland, OR sometime... It sucks for dating from the start, then add in a bit of hypocrisy, and fun times will be had by none.
 
first off, last time i checked wilmington was in NC unless there is a wilmington SC that i don't know about.

i used to live in Wilmington, NC. I was there for about a year and a half and although i wouldn't call it a interracial mecca, i did date a couple of white women while there.

my cousin and some of his friends went to portland, OR about ten years and came back screaming that it WAS an IR mecca. i was there this past May for a weekend and had a fun time and several clubs downtown.

all the stories i've heard about minneapolis indicate that is an IR hot spot.

currently live in Memphis and have not dated anyone (black or white) since moving here in april 05. i've seen some interracial couples, mostly married but i don't get the sense in my dealings that it's an easy place to date IR.

there are not a lot of mixed clubs here. it's either black or white.
 
Laguna Beach is one of THE WORST cities in California for a BM to IR date.
The cultural breakdown is: 95.5% white, 1.8% Asian, .5% black, and 2.2% other. You'll be lucky if you see any IR mixing at all, on top of the fact that the people in the city can come off rather "uptight" or "racist" against non-whites. No wonder why that show[Laguna Beach] did so well on MTV!

4. anywhere in the south, EXCEPT FOR SOME PARTS OF TEXAS AND FLORIDA......

BASICALLY ANYWHERE IN THE MIDWEST, PEOPLE ARE STILL LIVING IN 1952........

there is NO Wilmington SC, the person who says that never checks the map to see where they are talking about.

lived in Portland OR, it acts liberal but it is a very racist place.

Memphis is in the south, not very many comfortable places for IRs to be in the South accept Atlanta, Charlotte(to a point), San Antonio, Houston, South Texas and South Florida and Northern Virginia and Maryland
