That's him assigning behavior to skin color.

If Mike Brown is guilty of a crime, I can't wait for Richard Bare to explain how the "coonery" of hip hop music is somehow related other than his dislike for black people.

    Thanks, y'all.

Thanks, MS. I know it's harder for some to get or to be open to understanding where others are coming from, but I try not be one to give up hope.

Yeah, human nature in general sucks, especially when love & respect are in short supply in this world.

Great post, FG; I agree 100%.

I love this community too, and I want the WWBM family dynamic to be a healthy & supportive one. Things have been out of balance & unheathly for far too long, and I'm beyond ready to for things to improve. I've had enough of the 'us vs them' & the 'damned if we don't, damned if we do' crap that gets thrown at us too often around here. That's why women don't participate as much as they used to, and why some awesome women have left the board altogether.

I know I haven't been participating the way I used to, because I got tired of the hostility toward women, the redundant arguing, and the blatant lack of respect some have for the other members. It's had me feeling like it's pointless to bother, so I stopped bothering. Now I say, fuck that. I love this site & the majority of its members, and I'm done letting those who use it as a platform for their hate & bullshit keep me from participating & enjoying what this site was meant for whether they like it or not.

    Thank you, Christine.

Thanks, Jaisee. I hope so too.

Thanks, fellas. The stought still counts.

    Thanks, Bookie, I appreciate it.

Agreed. All the "one up" crap needs to stop.

    Great post, Lippy. Thank you.

Great post all around, especially this part.

    lmao. Yep

Exactly. There's always someone who has it better, and there's always someone who has it worse. It sucks, but that's life.

Thanks, TDK. Considering oneself progressive is a good thing, but one has to bear in mind that a progressive mentality is required for that. Not being open-minded or open to listening to what others have to say or dismissing other's points of view based on things that don't determine the value of their contribution also hinders progressiveness. If someone wants to be treated like a person and not being reduced to just race or gender, that person has to treat others that way; some of the people on this board just don't seem to understand that concept.

Whether you realize it or not, you tend to read things into what others say that usually aren't there. I don't know if it's just cynicism, pessimism, a bad experience which makes you guarded, or what, but you often react as though someone is coming at you sideways when that's not the case. I want to believe that it's not your intention to be so hostile toward the ladies (and sometimes others), but whether it's your intention or not, it does happen a lot. You also have a tendency to try to dictate conversations either by turning them into something that they're not or by pushing your own point of view as the only point of view there should be, which is never conducive to a healthy discussion. When that happens & people disagree with your opinion and/or approach, you tend to get upset & lash out accusing them of hating on you, which is rarely the case...people don't have to agree with you to like or respect you. It's like you have an obsessive need to argue and always be right/win and to hobby-ride certain issues into the ground, and it's not doing you any favors, because all it does is alienate people and hinder open & honest dialogue. As you like to say, you're smarter than that, so please stop being your own worst enemy.

Believe it or not, the women here are more than aware of what BM go through in life, and we do our best to show our love and support, especially in more trying times/situations. It's nothing short of a slap in the face to be told that we just don't get it and that we just or can't truly care due to being white & female, because that's the furthest thing from the truth. The men who have that messed up attitude need to recognize and respect that and give us the same consideration in return. We are NOT the enemy. That's why there's no need for your soapbox here...like Satchmo said, we don't need Sharpton preaching to the white women in the choir. We wouldn't be here if we weren't on the BM's side. Please try to keep that in mind as it would benefit you, the other members, and the site itself.

It would also help to remember what this site is all about, and that it's for both BM & WW.

Excellent post, wise & wonderful Christine!!!

Agreed. No one is trivializing anyone else's struggle or bringing out the oppression measuring stick in this conversation except for one individual. There is absolutely no reason we should have to limit the oppression discussion to just BM, because this site is for all of us and we all should be able discuss our struggles.

Don't you dare "stop bothering"! Don't give in to that crap; we've stopped bothering long enough! To hell with the sausage fest/woe is me party/oppression olymics on "bmbm.com"...if they want a sausage fest, they can start their own damn website, and we can spend our time & energy interacting with the men on here who do love, respect, and appreciate us & where we're coming from.

The sad thing is, he's not winning anything even when he "wins".

    Amen.

    Yep, it sure is.

Again, you're using tunnel vision and severe lack of empathy regarding the plight of what women, in general, have to go through in a dick-centric society. This is especially true when you downplayed certain problems that women do face on a daily basis. The fact you blatantly dismissed Bliss's response to something similar to Michael Brown shows that you're part of that problem yourself. You wanted something similar, she provided that, and yet you downplayed it because the numbers aren't as big. You just hate the idea of being proven wrong, which I can clearly see in this respect, especially if we're talking about women debating you.

Regarding what [white] women face even in countries like this? Sex is pretty much the root bit, whether we're talking sex trafficking or even just annoying and unwanted sexual advances by guys who can't read cues or just refuse to let go of their own egocentric mentality, which could eventually lead to rape and abuse and if the women were to go forward, some places, especially if you're a man of a high position, would be dismissive of the woman. As for economics, women get paid less than their male counterparts for the same position, and yet they pay more into their fabric and clothing. Sure, you're quick to assert the sick days bit, but that's irrelevant if we're talking career women who don't have children at all.

And yes, you are exercising a woe-is-me mentality. I'm not entirely sure if you want to have a solution for any of this or you rather whine your way for some sort of sympathy points and just continue the status quo.

Despite those cases like Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin, as a society, we have improved steadily in terms of relations between one another. The only real hindrances are not being more involved and influencing children into looking past those things and pushing them more into a harmonized mindset and drill it into their minds. It's merely a dream in that instance now, but it'll eventually become a reality close the near end of this century.

I have no interest in either one, so I guess I'd pick the earrings to sell them and use the money to go somewhere else.

This is simply not true at all.
Bliss's point fell flat because it was obvious.... never mind I'm pissing in the wind here. Like I said let's all use the ignore function and move on

It's not preaching as much as it's just my point of view and most of my posts are responses to other people that don't agree or hate that I don't view life through the same exact lens they do. Look how many posts we've spent on this. It's no longer about I see life differently or you see life differently its "why can't you just see it my way"
I don't require anyone to see life my way, just expressing myself and if I am so unbareable there are options. This site is a very good lesson in learning that no one's mind ever does change. We believe what we believe no matter what information is available.
