The environment won't "run out" but may become less hospitable for species who adapted to the conditions of a pre-industrial Earth. Humans may or may not be counted among those species. This all started with the Industrial Revolution and the solution presents humanity with a fork in the road. Roll everything back to what the world was like in the 17th century (unlikely) or build an energy strategy around harnessing the power of less or non-polluting sources.
Yes that is part of it. Public universities in the North also have stronger competition from well-regarded private and public institutions. My alma mater competes (locally) with Berkeley, Stanford, Caltech, UCSD, and USC for professors who publish topnotch research. That is a very tall order and you need resources to attract talented personnel.
Or garbage men for that matter... I understand the push for college but come on... There's going to be a bunch of 'highly educated' orange pickers in the future Immmmmm just saying Penn state was 6000 - 6500 a year full time when I attended way back in 2000 Now it's like double that or even more I think Something is up
We shower and wash with our tap water, but that's it. It's gross and it's test results aren't up to par. I use a 5 gallon water dispenser that I refill with filtered water for drinking & cooking at home, and when I'm not home I drink bottled water. Years ago I lived in a place that had an oily looking film floating in it. When I contacted the city to ask about getting a copy of recent test results, which are supposed to be accessible to the public, the woman hung up on me. I called back hoping that we may have just gotten disconnected somehow, but she hung up on me again. Evidently she didn't have anything good about the water to share with me. The plan is to eventually have some type of filtration system in place whenever I'm able to replace the plumbing (my house is old). Well water varies just like any other kind. Some is good and some isn't.
Well damn. When I was a county employee my salary was public information. It only seems right that the professors salaries would be public info as well since they are state employees. Good point.
Do that please. Don't be afraid to research and tackle it yourself. I have couple of friends (not including my brown water buddy), that have beautiful unincorpoted homes--not apart of local, but county governance, they have built some impressively efficient water filtration systems for much cheaper than packaged or professional deals. I just started building a small rain collection-filtration system for my spot in the burbs. I wanted to eliminate the water running off a second pitch on my house.
I definitely will when I'm able to. In addition to bad water, the house is still mainly plumbed with galvanized pipe, which has its own issues. My house was built in the 1930s, and at some point I want to get the entire thing replumbed. I had to put my remodeling on hold for a bit, but a filter system is part of the plan. I'm not quite as handy as I'd like to be, but I might be handy enough to come up with something along those lines. The rain-collection idea sounds interesting, but we typically don't get a lot of rain around here.
It's illegal in Denver to create a watershed or place a rain barrel...I can drink water right out of the tap but we pay for it!
Come on, Saty, you knew what I meant. We don't need to go to pre-Industrial Revolution, but maybe the big oil companies could invest in the pro-environment inventions that are happening or could happen instead of doing everything in their power to stop them....for starters.
I am so so done with political ads. I cannot WAIT for election day on Tuesday. It can't come fast enough. UGH.
I wish there was wifi at planet fitness I like watching my shows while I walk or run. It makes it easier to walk or run.
Ain't that something Making it illegal to trap resources occurring naturally Mankind is way beyond throwed off If there's no grunting, shoving, heaving and howling, it's not a gym
It'll only get worse in the aftermath of Citizen's United. Your saving grace is that you don't live in a battleground state where it's an unrelenting barrage of political junkmail on your TV.
True. Though there have been enough negative ad campaigning that I'm wondering if it's turning into a battleground state. The governor's race will be an interesting one to watch. And yes, I'm bracing myself for the REAL political ads coming soon enough with the Presidential race.
I feel you. They almost have the opposite effect, I hate Rauner, Quinn, Oberwise, Topinka, all of them...
