Nearly every bank, university and international shipping company on the Eastern seaboard has its origins in the slave trade or the substantial profit thereof. You're right. It's immeasurable. Just those little things like reading to a child and unknowingly modeling certain behaviors.
It certainly has a lot of power in so many forms. You're right, it's not always that complex either. Attain a higher education and you'd be surprised how many opportunities open up for you when you come from a disadvantaged situation. My dad, your parents and many others are living proof.
How am I reaching? You're argument is take nothing from any institution whose founder/namesake had anything to do with injustice against blacks. That's damn near all institutions on earth. Now what?
Calling what Cecil Rhodes did an 'injustice' is preposterous The million dollar man ted debiase theme song keeps playing in my head....you know....'everybody's got a price'
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...ro--a-moneymad-racist-closet-gay-1330823.html The fact that some people consider him to be a hero.....lolwut
How is he any worst than the people you buy clothes and electronic goods from. You personally participate in the suffering of others every time you buy a shirt from a discount store like Walmart or get a new cell phone.
And who do you think I'm talking about? Google who mines the materials you use for your cell phone and tablet Mr.Google It
Educated fools except scholarships from a racist. Jews would never sink that low. Character > Education
You've yet to give any alternative. In a competitive global economy where where you go to school is just as important as the experience you get, where should these kids go to school instead that will give them the same competitive edge and has a clean history both in name and institution. Take your time I'll wait.
That's debatable, especially when you factor in which career field you want to go into. Just off the top of my head, I'm sure engineers and tech majors from MIT would get more looks than ones from Oxford or Harvard, because MIT produces and houses some pretty wicked specimens when it comes to engineering and tech. On the other hand, law students from Harvard or business students from Wharton would trump grads from other schools in those areas I'm not even sure what Oxford is known for other than being very selective.
I just think its silly for blacks to eliminate themselves from that kind of privilege just because the namesake was a dick. That would remove us from most financial prosperity.
If I really felt that way I wouldn't have a gotdamn thing I'm taking everything I can in this white mans world P.s...calling cecil Rhodes a 'dick' is an understatement...look him up lol I've seen sites referring to him as the father of that wonderful system called apartheid
You're right I read up on him but he's long dead. Most of our "founders" were rapist, slave traders, and killed innocent people but it doesn't stop people from going to UVA, UPenn, or GW does it?
