I think everyone's sexualization of their partner is based on some fetish at its root, be it racial, physical, intellectual, etc. People are just into what they're into. I'm not sure we can do anything about that. It's just the expectation that in bm/ww IR it can only be about some sort of base physical desire, with the couple having no aspects of a real relationship involved.

It's not like Australians haven't "had contact" with black people, but it's different... Majority of black Australians are made up of Aboriginal people (majority of whom live in rural areas) and African immigrants. It's not as "mainstream", therefore not as "normalised". You're coming from such an American perspective!
