Is your attraction based on TV?

I've found the discussion on this thread and topic both interesting and disturbing, not that I am judge or jury for any of the feelings, thoughts, or ideas presented or represented...

Interesting because there is some real discussion taking place without shooting down the presenter of whatever contribution she or he may have... And there hasn't been the usual digression into personal discussions that are way off the topic...

Disturbed by the presentation of negative self image and or ideal... I would cut and paste examples but that would tend to imply that I am judging things stated in a positive or negative way to make a point...

The common bond within this community is a shared interest in relationships outside of a defined norm, thus we have defined our own norm, whether that norm conforms to other norms or not...

Whatever our choices, whatever we decide to do, be, believe.... it begins with the "me", the self... I believe that we are limited only by our imaginations and desires, though outside influences and certain other realities can severely hamper dreams without complete determination and total commitment to whatever cause.

In the "hood", most male children once dreamed of making the NBA and being the next Michael Jordon... Though not an impossibility, the probability was quite small for a number of factors that we could discuss in another thread if necessary. Finite factors of the game can be developed, but physical factors are genetic... Muggsy Bogues and Spudd Webb, to name just two examples related to the NBA, defied norms and probably a host of scouts and statisticians by gaining some measure of prominence in the NBA despite those who thought their desires were whack or unattainable.

I cannot say that television has not had a negative impact on lives, especially young minds... especially when the medium is used as a substitute for human interaction and guidance and when television uses its power for propaganda and product pushing... When I read about children jumping off of structures believing they can fly because their favorite cartoon character does, or children performing body slams ala WWE without fully understanding the theatrics being presented, I understand the power the medium welds... But I also believe blaming television or attributing one's life choices to television is a bit extreme and simplifies a deeper cause...

If we are taught to be ignorant, negative, suppliant or self-destructive thru all of the mediums available, we tend to accept the message until the awakening, if there ever is one, until the "me" starts listening to the inner-voice and starts questioning the how, the why, the where....etc..... I don't mean to suggest that by simply waking up, we're going to be happy, successful, and whatever else comes from the dream. Just that awakening is the first step to realizing what ones potential is.

For all of the members here, past, present, and future, each story, each background, and each individual motivation differs from everybody's no matter how similar the circumstances...

If the goal is love or a mutually satisfying relationship, however one defines it, I don't believe such a shared exchanged is possible until one first loves and respects oneself...

To steal a phrase from one of my favorite songs:

    "...the greatest thing
    that you'll ever learn
is just to love and be loved in return..."

I would only suggest you throw out everything you've heard, thought you knew or believed you knew about relationships and live it from the first person...

No, I fell in love with a man, then his culture, and a life. I feel sad for young boys- African and Afro-American who view tv gangsta as their only social space.

My man is a rasta, wanderer and musician that doesnt rap lol. And from a mother and father who have stayed together for over 30 years and are of two very different faiths.

Now we are weaving a new aspect to both our families but so many white and black think these relationships are jus about some gangsta and his white b' and there are women who want that stereotype too_Only on the surface though, because that life in real living colour is fucking hard work presumably.

Amazing to find how many these hip hop types talk it up cos it sells but are so different off camera

Are you trying to say that the most black men do not have the genetics to get a real beautiful white woman in the end and if they truly love themselves they would choose a beautiful black woman?
Please correct me if I am wrong and I hope that I am.

I'm not trying to say that at all and I'm somewhat amazed that you extracted such a distorted conclusion from what I did write. Maybe you should read it again....

Don't blame him too harshly. He probably watched too many episodes of Jerry Springer.

As a kid, my physical attraction for white women started with comics. Most comic book female characters, except for May Parker, are built like brick houses. I always loved the aggressive amazon types. Most of the white women on TV are built like sticks. I did not become emotionally drawn to ww until I went to college. It was so new & different to spend an hour or two between classes debating or just discussing various topics a lady who was totally different than me.

I'd submit to you that the vast majority of attraction comes from what you see in the media ... for the simple reason that as humans, we're mostly not media smart. That is, we tend to accept the illusions we see in the media as real. And it goes without saying that the vast majority of women who are held up as the epitome of beauty tend to be white.

Personally, most of my attraction was based on television. I remember Morgan Fairchild was the first ever woman I can say I was ever attracted to (she was on Falcon Crest, some 80s show on CBS). Most of the women I grew up liking were white, and due to growing up in a mostly white part of Queens, alot of the girls I liked were white. This is not to say that I didn't like any girls of other races, but from a young age, it's been pretty clear where my attraction lay.

I definitely feel you on that. My attraction started from watching Joyce DeWitt as "Janet" on Three's Company.

As pointed out in another thread already today, if you think the majority of WW on this forum are big and that's not your type, which you always seem to make a point of doing when you post here, why do you hang out on this forum? Makes no sense at all.

I'm not here to flirt online or be an E-Black Knight son. I like to debate shit and shoot the shit. Thats about it.

You don't debate anything "son". You always seem to talk about the same silly topic. Weight. And who do you shoot the shit with? Don't see you doing that either. Just saying "son".
