..this coming from another female, I suppose...

all of the other guys dig it.. in a purely artistic way...

    given that she's probably underage

    :p

which wouldn't matter tho, if the legal age is in fact younger, as pointed out before

last time I checked, america's age limits were higher than the rest of the world, because "This country is the leader of the modern world. We have to set high bars for civilization and progress."

    I remember seeing that somewhere...

which is just a coverup for the truth.. which is..

the anal-rentitive bunch of policymakers in washington, would like to remain stubborn and reject any idea of lowering anything, based on other countries that are also "successful."

this is a man's world afterall... and you know how men are...

if this country was ran by women, you would probably see some more acceptance of "new ideas."

The problem with kids here in the U.S. is that we have shown a propensity to act irresponsibly when it comes to alcohol.

A lot more kids here drive at 16 or 17 than in other countries.....think about all of the drunk driving fatalities in the U.S. It happens to 18 and 19 year olds too.

Keep in mind the U.S. was founded by Puritans...also remember that the U.S. is generally more religious than most Westernized countries....so we will always lean conservative on issues like that.

    MY OPINION:

WE PROBABLY SHOULD LOWER THE AGE LIMIT BECAUSE IT'S NOT REALLY PREVENTING KIDS FROM DRINKING. I'M NOT A BIG DRINKER...BUT I HAD MY FIRST BEER AT 18....OF COURSE MOST KIDS I KNOW TASTED ALCOHOL MUCH EARLIER....ANYWHERE FROM AGES 12-15. WHEN YOU TAKE AWAY THE "FORBIDDEN FRUIT" FACTOR....TEENAGERS WON'T FIND ALCOHOL NEARLY AS TEMPTING.[/b]

I agree. We're conditioned to think a certain way, thus we act a certain way.

Slowly conditioning us to accept a younger age would put us in the same position we are now:

    An "acceptable" way of living.

Where Ronja lives it is younger than Norway's. I bet she wished her MP should get a law passed to make the age to 18.

Brings back memories of my landlord frequently going into people's apartments, on campus of "Party College PA," to raid liquor parties...

    lol..

he was a cool guy tho.. not "too" many guys got arrested for it..

I do remember drinking cans of miller freshman year, while eating flinstones cereal, at 12 in the morning tho...

it's such a big deal over here...

but hey, like we've noticed, other countries that are just as civilized, have lesser age requirements..

I also remember asking my uncle about drinking, when he first went into the Navy...

He said no one really cared if you weren't 21 yet..

age wasn't a big deal, with his experiences..

hard to imagine traveling to different countries, and not drinking because of US laws...

Me too, I had my first beer at 18! I went back to Russia for the 1st time when I was 18, and I was so proud to be able to buy a beer legally. I still crack up about it, I bought it in the same park where I used to play in the sandbox as a baby. And it hit my head so hard that I walked home swaying back and forth.

I don't think the drinking age should be lowered, because even though kids drink anyway, in that case even more kids will drink. There are enough young idiots as well as innocent people being killed in car accidents because of drinking and driving. I really doubt it that alcohol won't be as popular with young people if it becomes legal. I think it depends much more on the young person's environment.

Generally it's 15/16 in all of Europe. (But doing it with a minor can get you into trouble, so don't take it for granted, if you ever have a 16 year old European gf...)

I think we're just less religious and more realistic than people are in US. Americans seem to think that if it's legal, people will do it. Generally the average age for début is about one year higher than the legal age for girls, and almost 2 years higher for boys. So it's not like kids feel they have to do it on their 15th/16th birthday. Young people have sex anyway, so making them criminals for it is ridiculous. That being said, there has to be a limit to protect children from paedophiles.

Also, even if it's not illegal, people (men and women) will frown upon a 30 year old man who hangs around 16 year old girls too much. Too big of an age difference, if the girl (or the boy for that matter) is very young, is not socially accepted at all.

BTW The age for when you can start drinking is often not the same as for when you can start having sex... In Denmark you have to be 15 for both. In Norway it's 16 for sex, 18 to drink... Different countries different rules...
