Sure I do but I don't need some American guy with fake white teeth and a pretend PHD to tell me how to do it for 29.99! Maybe I've been spending too much time in Africa :p but I find the whole hyper commercialisation of parenting a little strange.. definite by product of our Western culture.

I know what you mean. Some do have real PHds though, and sometimes they are accomplished women talking about how Tiger mums raise smart kids. Amy Chan, some "smart" professor at Yale just knows these tricks, and she has smiled to the bank putting her writing skills to work.

Here, we welcome Amy to the debate :D

I am gonna try hard to provide them with best education and opportunity that money can buy, be it Athletics, martial arts, language, Math, science, history, Art, etc... I am also going to instill the fear of God in them. Additionally, I will teach them how to be civil and respectful to any human being, but if some shit wants to hit the fan then to erect their spine and go MMA on their ass.
To me, kids are major investments, therefore, will prepare them to excel and dominate anything & everything they choose to do. At the end of the day I might live vicariously thru them, lol

    Rich dad poor dad!

Considering my kids will more than likely be mixed race, I'd imagine they'll end up racial tolerance is pretty much a given. I want my children to be seekers, I want them to accept nothing at face value... question everything. I am not religious, but I am spiritual. If my wife chooses to instill her religion in them, I will not stand in her way because I see the majority of religions traditions as useless and fruitless rigmarole. However, I don't think it's necessarily detrimental. My children will be well-traveled, and by that I'm not just talking New York, Disney World and California. Backpacking Guatemala, South of France, Vatican City type of shit.

While I do love my PS3 to death, I do not want couch babies. I will try to encourage my children to desire the outdoors as I did when I was a youth. I hope for my kids to have a fondness for things like camping, surfing, basketball, football, snorkeling, scuba diving, martial arts, instruments and the such... and I intend to be very active with them in those things.

Perhaps one of the most important things that I can teach them is to not buy into the consumerist mentality. That they are not defined by what they have, or how much they have. Owning the best of anything does not make them better than anyone. We're all equals, and nothing will ever change that.

that bolded bit is a damned hard one to teach. most of my friends are very well off and i don't have the 'keeping up with the jones's' attitude, but my kids struggle with it when their friends turn up with a PS3 and we don't have one or when their friends get things 'just because' when mine get material possessions on their birthdays and for christmas and that's really about it.

    must give your post a

Oh yeah.. Amy Chan.. she has been getting a lot of press here too recently.

Of course. I'm stirring a little.

And it's easy to be idealistic without actually having the screaming kid at your feet, hell, I might need endless Xanax! :p

It depends on the parents and who they want their kids to be.

Never argue with women, you will not win and it's very feminine.

The subject of my daughter liking black guys and dating has already come up. I told her to never judge based on skin color and she needs to do what makes her happy. She just needs to be smart make good decisions. Guess what her decision was? Lol. And I'm proud of her!

Can I be honest in saying I'm going to have a REAL problem with my daughter bringing home a white male.

    ...yes I know its wrong

....but I am going to be honest

....and the chances of her bringing home a white dude, just by numbers and where she's growing up alone are pretty high.

I will teach my kids take care of yourself first and all others second.
I will teach them the only real love is familial love. Romance is a great fantasty but it's not real the world doesn't allow it.
I will teach them nothing is more important than education and taking care of your body.
That you can trust no one other than yourself.
That the only true divinity lies in charity and loving your fellow man
That there is strength in numbers but wisdom in singularity.
If I have daughters I will teach them that to find a man that loves them they must love themselves more than any man can love them. Little girls really need self esteem.
I will teach my sons to never share their fears or their distresses with anyone other maybe a therapist. A gentleman never speaks of hid ailments. I will also teach them that it's just as important to stand strong as it is to know when to yield. Life is a constant ebb and flow and to survive it's storms one must be adaptable and formitable.

Above all else try and leave the earth in better conditions than you found it once you're done playing with it.
Oh and to floss. Can't forget to floss lol.

Why would you have a problem with that? If they are a good guy , then thats all that matters.

MF, that sounds like a recipe for a very lonely child, and then a very lonely adult. :(
