Don't fall into the trap of arguing with Lexington yet again. Tonytony, I feel your pain re: BW in the workplace. I always try keep a professional distance from all females at work due to political correctness/any little thing may be construed as harassment. Good luck in your situation.

All *I* can say is....it CAN, DOES, and WILL happen.....

    ESPECIALLY in AMERICAN SOCIETY!

    ALWAYS!

But the very EXISTENCE of THIS site...with SO MANY *DECENT, RIGHT-THINKING INDIVIDUALS* .. PROVES .. that its NOT a **UNIVERSAL** thing!

    Fortunately...........

That is why racism is so prevalent today and should not be tolerated by either white or black people.

I don't think this is a contest between BW and BM of who has it worst. I understand that both BW and BM go through a lot. However, I believe BW are sick and tired of BM, on average, not being proactive in changing their situation. You may get kicked down, but it your responsibility to get back up. You do have many BM who are starting to stand up against the atrocities of the prison system, young Black men being uneducated, and other issues of racial prejudice and discrimination. However, the movements are fractured and no body really knows what the other is doing. But, in the end, even BM who are proactive in making life better for BM are complaining that the majority of BM, regardless of class, status, and education, are not stepping up to the plate and doing right by themselves, their families, and communities. Many have a rogue view of me, myself, and I. Even those who have accomplished something, too many only have time for themselves and their immediate families and screw the community and fighting for social justice for all BM and BW as a whole. I truly think, that many BW view BM as being "weak" minded. Incapable of fighting for their rights and living their life as MEN, letting their women deal with the burden of responsibility for their families and communitites alone. In a nutshell, these women feel neglected, abandoned, and dismissed. When BM are carried off to prison, underemployed or unemployed--BW have to take over to provide for the basic needs of the family. Black women may get the job, but they are the lowest paid. Again, magazines want to talk about how good BW are doing, which is an outright lie. I suggest the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Labor Statistics to give you a much better view of just how "good" we are doing. In the end, BM are screwed over through the legal system, whereas BW are screwed in terms of economics. Both strategies working together in a way to keep Blacks down. Yes, BW are somewhat ahead, but this has always been the case in the U.S. Give the BW the jobs, but service jobs, and pay them the least out of BM, WM, and WW. The Black professional woman earning high end 5 figures or six figures IS NOT representative of the majority of BW in the workforce. They are only representing at a slightly higher rate than BM, but it is definitely not significant. Due to the media only concentrating on the struggles of BM, it misleads those to think that BW are doing much better than we really are doing. Thus, when you have BM and BW struggling, their is going to be conflict amongst both sets. We bring the outside problems to each other, and both lose at the end.

The only difference between BM and BW is that BW are much more likely to work together to deal with their issues as well as the issues of BM. BM, however, are least likely to work together to deal with the struggles of the Black community, esp. with the troubles targeting BM.

    Peace.

beauty, black women do get harrassed by the cops and followed around the store. they have the statistics to prove this. maybe alot of this also depends on if you look rough but i know that when i go into the mall i also get followed around the store and i dont even look rough when i go to the mall. maybe you havent experienced it but i have. you have black women that got shot in the back by the cops, some of them were elderly and their cases didnt even make the news. maybe black women arent harrassed by the cops to the same extent that black men are but believe me they still experience the same thing. did you ever hear of those stories about black women being singled out and harrassed by the cops at the airports? according to the stats about 90% of the people they harrassed at those airports were black and female.
now youre hearing more and more stories about 5 year old girls being put in handcuffs and 14 year old girls going to juvinile for 7 years just for shoving a teacher .

really i'm not here to get into a big argument about who has it the worst but i dont think black men have it any harder than black women.

I respect you ladies and it’s obvious to me that you all have some valid points although I don’t agree with all of it.

The problem I see is as old as time itself, people will usually point the finger at people who either have no control over a situation or they fight against the people they should be fighting with.

I also see that you/we are talking about something deeper than work place racism and as I’ve always said before, if there is any one thing that holds the so-called black community together it’s racism overall.

Again I don’t agree with everything that you posted here and elsewhere but I understand how you can see things that way and I do respect all 3 of you.

    It ain’t easy is it?

But know this: You do have strength, heart, soul, beauty and intelligence and that’s something that can never be taken away unless you give in to the very things that you are fighting against.

    I mean that.

    You ladies take care.

very true designer it seems that racism is the one thing that binds us togather...not to say racism against blacks is a good thing at all...LOL it's ironic but if we didnt have that binding us togather then i would absolutely HATE to see what would happen and how much more divided we would be lol. i wonder what else would bind us. it SHOULD be just a common mutual respect and care for the next man that unites us but human beings have always found it hard to unite based on those 2 most basic things. if you look throghout history hardship, oppression and a common enemy has been the main thing that has bound people togather the most when it really shouldnt have to take oppression and hardship to do that.

anyway i really have alot of respect for you as well and feel you're very intelligent...so i'm glad to see the feeling is mutual.

    peace :D

bigotry, prejudice knows no preference and is praciticed by all of gods children as it were.
White Women are just as likely to be prejudiced as white men and also racist.
I think because of the person's gender i don't automatically give them a free pass but a lot of black guys do.
because its a she rather than a he, alot of times black guys will take certain things where as if it is a man they would raise bloody hell.
I have known guys to play around with white women who have used nigger on a constant basis and i don't mean in the hip hop ga way of saying it.
i mean let's be real about this we live in america and contrary to the fresh coat on its surface there are the ugly sores and scars from America's past. I mean it was only fifty or more years ago that the voting rights bill was past. the same amount of time since bloody sunday, mass lynching segregation. Less time for the bussing problems that occurred in boston and other cities.
on a whole people are a lot more segregated then we tend to want to believe. For the 10 or 20 people who associate with people of another ethnic group outside of a business or consumer environment. there are 80 to 90 people who don't.
those wounds are still raw and many see interracial dating as a slap in the face or an attempt to curry favor with white society.

I worked in Corporate America and its so true. People in that environment have a chip on their shoulder and have that sense of entitlement. I can relate my brother. Those people are so divorced in the real world and caught up in a fantasy world they have built around themselves.

this is to all the black men here who act like white women' shit dont stink. there are plenty of racist white women outthere. you know they dont call you nigger to your face but there are quite a few of them in the office. something that has dawned on me recently is that there is a misconception in the office is that only white men are responsible for institutional racism, the reality is that white women in the office are just as responsible. I think that while the law makes special arrangements for white women (or women of any colour) who are wronged in the office I believe the law fails to properly address the struggle of the black man, it appears that if a black man in the office is being mistreated in the office by a white woman he has little or no chance of justice because he will simply get stereotyped as being an aggresive out of control man picking on the precious white princess, his only chance of getting any justice is if he is in a relationship with a black woman who works in the office in which case because they usually outnumber black men in the office they can use what I call the "black womans network" to put pressure on the person and get you justice, if you are a black man who dates white woman and ends up having a problem with a white woman in the office then you are screwed as the black womens network will not throw you a bone (in fact they will add fuel to the fire) and the white women in the office will gang up on you and character assassinate you.

I now realise that the reason things havent changed as much as we would like is because alot of bm are in denial of the presence and influence of racism by white women. I can tell you that the sort of shit I've been put through in the work place over the last week has made me fundamentally start disliking white women, no let me rephrase that has made me fundamentally start hating white women, I think I always knew that alot of white women in the office where quite racist but I ignored it hoping my personality would shine through and eventually the little sniping would stop (aint it funny? i believe most black people can tell when they meet a racist but the ones like myself try to deny it and convince themselves that they can win the person over).

I'm now thinking of quiting my job cos i cant stand the stress anymore. the funny thing is that all the women of other races (indian, chinese, arab ) are okay and dont indulge in the bullshit.
I believe the current employment laws are bullshit, I believe the laws should be changed to offer more protection to black men in the office, it is no accident that there arent many black men on a corporate level, the reality is that there is a depth of bullshit that we have to put up with that the law completely ignores, the insecurity of white men, the blatant racism of white women, insecure black women worried that if you keep doing well that you might be dating a white woman etc.

its strange because black women in the office are given alot of protection alot of the stuff thats happened to me (as i watched my complaints ignored) when it happens to the black women in the office, heads roll. I believe that in the same way the law was amended to reflect the needs of white women in the office that the law also needs to be amended to offer more protection to black men in the office if not the current scarcity in numbers of brothas in the office will continue. it is high time we recognise that the most vulnerable group of people and biggest sufferers of discrimination in the office are in fact black man, things like stereotypes and passive discrimination against us makes us a much more vulnerable group and at the same time makes it very likely that if we are wronged we are less likely to get justice.

I used to ignore that reality until I witnessed it in front of my own eyes. Corporate America is really a hostile, racist environment in the first place. I have seen some women, especially Black, Latina, and Asian Women with either their boyfriends or husbands who are white men. Most have treated Black men with disrespect and its sickening.

Its time this issue is addressed and no one should have to suffer from this situation ever. Tonytony, I wish you the best of luck. Don't let those White Women at that job influence you to dislike all white women because of those ignorant bunch. THeir view of the world is so one sided and limiting. :x

What are you talking about here? I am sorry you had such a hard time with the women in your office - but am just wondering about your perception of the laws that are in effect.

    Re: Very Good Post

This is a very good post. As much as past experiences in life and growing up in college may have led me to develop somewhat of a dating preference for white women, I'm not the kind of guy who would sing blind praises to white women on here (there's a post on this forum asking black men to write poems professing their love for white women-I would never do that) or in real life if any of them disrespected me. And I have also had many bad dating experiences with white women as well.

This post brought to mind when I just got hired at the job I just finished, working as a publicist in a corporate office at my former school. Most of the white women there wouldn't say hi to me or make me feel at ease when I come to work in the morning. They never made me feel as if I was a part of their team until I began to prove my worth. When I was introduced to them, I could tell from the looks in their eyes, how worried and nervous a lot of them were...wondering if I would be a hot-tempered, trouble maker who won't take orders, wondering if I was the most qualified for the job, etc. So of course, I had to work twice as hard, sometimes even three times as hard.

Let's face it. The black man is the last person in the world whom Corporate America will seek to protect. Corporate America is extremely unforgiving to black men. Ironically, when you apply for jobs in Corporate America, as much as they claim on the application forms not to discriminate on the basis of race, gender and national origin, they use it against you. I finished grad school a month ago and have applied for more jobs in Corporate America than I can count. An analysis of my resume on various employment sites states that I beat candidates who applied for the same jobs by very huge margins when it comes to experience. Yet, because I identify myself on the forms as a foreign national and a black male, no one e-mails me back or returns my call. There's just too much racial bias and prejudice in America and it's a big shame.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all about your perception of bias and prejudice - but I am curious as to if you think it's worse here in America than elsewhere?

    Re:

Well...as far as that question, I really can't say. I've been living in America since 1996, so I can only speak from my experiences here. Europe has now become so anti-black with racist thugs yelling racial slugs at African soccer stars playing in Spain and Eastern Europe, and with the new President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, who was elected primarily for running under an anti-immigration platform.
