Why Are White Women Obsessed With Weight?

Its not just the American culture that glorifies skinny women. The standard of beauty to white people is skinny (for women), but I dont think skinny is necessarily the word, in shape, without fat, lets say.

 

Its that Damned E! Channel...

I guess the answer to the question is finally unanimous then.

 

I just wonder how did "skinny" become the Ideal body shape in America, even in parts of Europe there are some different standards.

 

I think that the American media may be the origin of it, seeing is how 'thick' or 'fat' wouldn't make the cover of many pop-cultured magazines, even to this very day. Also, some white women are just simply insecure about their weight regardless, and some of them don't even realize the dangers that they place on their bodies by misinterpreting a few extra pounds as 'fat'.

 

I mean how come a movie star can't have a body like this?

I am not obsessed with weight. Just obesessed with staying skinny.

 

i'm a white woman and i'm not obsessed with weight - mine or anyone elses

but i understand the pressures the media put on women - and not only that its other women.
women just bitch non-stop at other women - theres no female support anymore

and one saying that does bug me is 'you're looking nice and slim' like u can't look nice and not slim

 

If beyonce or J.Lo were white would they just be considered overweight/outshape? like if Kiera Knightley was built like J.Lo (one can dream ) wouldn't there be alot of media ppl calling her fat and what not.

 

I used to look like J Lo (the exact body shape) except I'm petite (5'3"), and yes, people told me continuously I'm fat and my ass is big .

 

Taye, you are absolutely correct. Remember the never ending discussion about Kate Winslet, who I think is just gorgeous.

I can only speak for white women, assume however a lot of women feel that way, it has to do with confidence. I have never been skinny, from childhood on until today. A few years ago I was always concerned never feeling really happy in my body. Now, being a littlebit wiser, older and confident, I love my body. I think I am sexy and my attitude it what matters. I've talked a lot about it with male friends of mine, and while they are not comfortable re-assuring woman not happy with herself and therefore not flirting or approaching her, they flock to confident women no matter what. Scoiety, the fashion and movie industry put a lot of images out of "how it should be" but us women need to learn that it's not society or men that can make you feel a certain way, it's yourself.

Other women
Are the harshest critics. I have never seen a man rip and trash talk another woman as I have seen women do... so much for sisterhood.

Clothing
I think that is the biggest issue creating the pressure and obsession. Feminine clothes, such as dresses and skirts, do look better on skinny women.

As a visual aid to what Iam talking about. These two lovely ladies are 100% caucasion and everytime I look at their pictures in disbelief especially at the second pic :shock: . I wonder if there are more white girls built like this in real life? also Kate Winslet is NOWHERE near FAT!!!! lol Kiera Knightly is like one missed ham sandwich away from being anorexic, but she definitely has a very pretty face though. Also heard that Kiera comes from a family background of eating disorders!
