Not in my opinion. I think whatever it is if it's heartfelt and you can afford it, give it. I should say a car or a house is something I might view as excessive, it would depend on the circumstances, but an iPod wouldn't be to me. I wouldn't worry about what other people think Andrae, just do what feels right to you. Not to mention it's a Christmas gift, it's not like it's an out of blue for no reason gift.
Boy y'all completely miss the point of a gift! You're not supposed to consider what happens if you break up with her in a couple months, or anything else, the point is to give someone what they need or want, no strings attached. Good Lord people put too much thought into stuff. I've given far more expensive gifts than an iPod to total strangers, and I don't care what they did with it once it was theirs, the point was to give. If I can afford it and want to give it I will. I derive happiness from giving, it's far more enjoyable than receiving. And again we're talking about Christmas here, it's not like he's just randomly showering her with expensive gifts.
Not to mention going into a relationship restricting your actions based upon the possibility that the relationship might fail, is a defeatist way to think. It's like you're dooming yourself from the onset.
Andrae, if I were you I'd go with my gut on this, and if it feels right, do it. I'd order it from the Apple store because they will engrave it before shipping it to you and they have the largest selection of colors, and I'd throw in an i-tunes card so she doesn't have to spend any of her own money to use the gift. But that's just me... what can I say I'm excessive and I believe in turn-key gift giving.
Again, it is the thought that counts and not the cost. People should be as happy with a 1000 dollar gift as they are with a 10 dollar gift.
I never said differently Arch. I said get them what they need or want but wouldn't buy for themselves. Not all of the gifts I've given were an expensive item, but they all fit a need or want. Sometimes I'm really creative.
Yeah I agree that's why I just bought her one. I got it refurbished for 125 so it didn't break the bank. I wish I had thought of engraving it but I can do that later or just get a card.
holy crap, 125?!?!?!?
I thought they were 100. Jobs ripping them off!
I think that's fair for a 8 gig video nano. And maybe a stuffed bear from build a bear or something.
I hope the investment you put into this relationship comes back 2 fold or more for you.:smt023

Thanks man I appreicate that. I already think I got my money's worth by meeting her and spending time with her. I know que cheesy music in the background lol
SMH at using the term 'investment' in combination with relationship. Like he's buying stock in her. :smt011
For me money and love just don't have anything to do with each other, I sure wouldn't consider using one to secure the other. The thought alone offends me. Again :smt011.
I am happy to see you not approaching this from a jaded POV though Andrae. If she makes you happy, that's what matters.
well that is the way you interpreted it. loll![]()
That's the way you said it.![]()
I didn't go any where near "Like he's buying stock in her"
I specifically used relationship because that is what he is putting his money, time, love ,and effort in. She(I imagine) is doing the same. The buying stock in her is where you made a jump. I could understand saying "like he's buying stock in the relationship" but not buying stock in her.
I"m having something that I haven't had in almost 2-3 yrs. Lemonheads![]()
It's the same thing to me, if it's her he's in the relationship with, then her and the relationship are interchangeable, and viewing something you buy her as an investment in either is what I would object to. To me that's the equivalent of investing money to secure a better relationship or increase the chances it will last. I just don't think that's an appropriate way to look at it. If you do, and that works for you, that's fine. I would never want any man I was with to view it that way, that's all.
There is an investment but for me its time which is far more valuable than any ipod so I'm not concerned with it since she's making the same investment.
