I am a southerner living in Yankeeland and the Northerners are some of the most ignorant folk I have met asking questions or making statements like,

1. do yall have slavery still
2. can you go outside at night
3. do you all have electricity
4.can you vote
5. what can you do for fun and entertainment in the south(I tell them, ever hear of the Atlanta braves, ever watch CNN, ever watch teh final 4-we rule it, Dallas Cowboys, Jazz, Blues, Country Rock, Soul, all from the South)

Tucker do you have a heavy southern accent? alot of northern people (black and white) do trash the south though, I guess they view that shit as being backwards. I have heard people ask questions to southerners like "how come yall sound like slaves?" or "Do you guys bath everyday?" and if the person is white they already assume that the person is a KKK member. Most northerners hear that accent and they be thinking of Gomer Pyle/Mayberry type shit. lol

 

no my accent is proper new england middle class suburban, from going to prep school and Ivy League so no accent at all. but I can break into my southern english as natural as I please.

the yankees are dumb, they dont know that the Nazi party in the US was started in Wisconsin, that the KKK was very big in the NOrth as well as the south and the biggest KKK area now is Indiana, Pennslyvania and New Jersey. and if you get outside of the ciites of NYC and Boston and Philly, the northern whites are just as redneck and backwards.

heck, even in Philly and boston, in the city, the people are so backwards, have never travelled, still use the N word, are as racist as any kKK member.

in Philly last year an IR couple has a cross burning in their front yard; also in Ohio and Pa there have been KKK rallys this year and last.

 

So true...Yankees can be a pain in the arse..(no offense to anyone)...but they think this is still Reconstruction or something. Northern whites will look down on southern whites but southern whites will live right next door to you without any problems...and some will let you date their cornbread and grits fed daughters.... :lol:

Racism up north is more personal whereas down south it is more about money....most lynchings down in Dixie were due to whites being upset at the relative financial success of a BM....most people think it was about a WW crying rape but actually that ONLY happened about 20-25% of the time.

As the saying goes..."whites up north don't care how much ya' got...as long as you don't live next to them....whites down south don't mind living next to ya' just as long as you don't have more than they."

People forget that the 70s television show, "All in the Family" was created by Norman Lear in a New York city borrough not Alabama. In the 70s in South Carolina, and Mississippi my family was living comfortably with whites next door in suburban, not working class neighborhoods.

the point of the show was to say, Liberal New Yorkers need to stop looking at Alabama and Mississippi and pointing fingers about racism--racism is well rooted in New York and the urban centers of the North. If Northerners whites loved blacks so much, why are there still Ghettos? Why are there still riots in the streets of the cities of Boston, Cincinatti, LA? the northerner cities and rural areas are ripe with racist youth, white and black and violence is occuring quite often. From Howard Beach and Towanna Brawley, to the major riots in Cleveland, its a growing issue.

Southerners are racist, just as all other regions, but the growth of successful blacks in the suburbs of Charlotte, Suburban DC, Charleston, Greenville/Spartanburg, Savannah and Atlanta, Jacksonville, Birmingham, Dallas, Houston and Lttle Rock are amazing. Oprah and Maya Angelou both did major reports of the migration of professional blacks back home to the south because it was safer for families, cheaper to feed, house and clothes your kids, a new respect for change, and the fact that still our Black Colleges and Universities remain in the South!

We still have a long way to go, but I dont see any promise land up here in the north, I see black folks getting poorer and the streets more vicious.

 

I live in the Midwest and can say that the Midwest has the MOST major segregated cities in the entire nation. Make no mistake there are plenty of affluent black suburbs but neighbors are clearly black and white. I have lived in South Carolina, Alabama, and St. Louis and white people in the south are just more used to black people.

And the funny thing is...most of these ethnic immigrants (2nd, 3rd generation)....would have gotten strung up by the Klan alongside blacks less than a century ago. And the White Nationalists/wannabe Nazis...frown upon Italians and think of them as second rate whites....many of the southern Italians look like North Africans..and many blacks have Irish surnames to go along with the Irish blood (can we say Shaquille O'Neal) so obviously as much as they talk....they still want to get in our collective trousers.

From what I've seen Irish can be racist but they also are a lot more likely to mix whereas Italians (in this country) can be a little prejudiced...they seem like they are trying to drown out their "questionable heritage" in a similar way than some Latinos do....wanting to look more "Nordic."

 

I can say from experience and from friends that Italians in Italy aren't as openly prejudiced as their Americanized cousins, at least north of Rome and closer to the Alps. Italians there tend to behave more European than Mediterranean.

I've read from several places that outsiders are not welcome at all in Southern Italy (having the lowest retention rate of immigrants). Almost all the Italian Americans come from that part of the country. The Northerners perhaps had too much money and didn't care to migrate.

malachi, that was according to your friends but I grew up in the south and now live in the north, so I have both perspectives and all that you mentinoed were found in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, fort wayne, trenton and albany.

so yes, as I explained we have racism in the south no doubt, but the North can not point fingers since,

To me, It's not a question of North vs. South, but the different ways prejudice reveals itself in society.

 

It seems alot of the racists from the past moved to the North. I was just discussing this a few months back. I've lived in the south most of my life. But have dealed with more racism in the north,midwest. Like when I had to deal with some neo-nazi's in washington. The north needs to do something about this like the south eventually did.

 

the problem with the North is that the idea of the promiseland keeps blinders on our people and the white people are smug with the knowledge that their racism wont be challenged by black folk who still think the kkk rides in the night on horseback with torches and ropes in the south.

white liberals in the north and california dont think their crap stinks. they think they are the white saviors of the black masses whom they keep pent up in ghettoes and let them out to do minstrel rap shows and urban art works for tourists.

I have met Irish and Italians in the North and Northeast and baby, they are the most racist people I have seen and I dont ask friends I live up here and experience it. I live very close to south jersey and the Neo Nazis are alive and well. they just did a report last night on rising hate groups and theydidnt say South Carolina or Tennessee, they said PA and NJ.

IN the Southern Poverty Law Center and the group that does Hate watch, collects data on hate groups in each US state and California and New Jersey lead the nation

and, you see? America (the land of the free, the home of the brave, where 'all men' are equal) is ONE of the MOST racist, hypocritical, and wicked countries in the WORLD. You have places in the Middle East and Africa that are more peaceful than this nation. How about that?



Like I said before, the South has always had a massive population of blacks, even successful ones, and I also said before that most of our black public figures/celebrities are from the South, and nowhere else. I think that speaks for itself in this discussion.
