He's also owned businneses and headed businesses. The companies he invested in also were ran by big Corp businessmen. You can't be naive to this...it's impossible to be the richest man on the planet at times, and be fair and nice.

I agree with GL, he would make a great President, but he's been too fiscally conservative for the Left to endorse. .

(His saving grace might be his philanthropy, since the Left love to give other people's money away, lol)

 

For real. Buffett happens to be a brilliant stock investor and hedge fund manager He built his fortune having a keen eye for brick and mortar businesses that actually MADE SOMETHING.

Buffett isn't shuffling decimal points and making huge percentages on indecipherable stock instruments.

That's part of the reason he never relocated to Wall Street, although he did work there as a young man.

Berkshire Hathaway doesn't operate on a 2% fee and 20% cut of all profits on investments.

A quote from Buffett's biography, Snowball, which everyone IMO should read;

"I got half the upside above a four percent threshold and I took a quarter of the downside myself. So if I broke even, I lost money. And my obligation to pay back losses was not limited to my capital. It was unlimited”.

The bolded part is what makes Buffett an entirely different animal than the generations of hedge fund managers that came after him.

Buffett's primary responsibility was to his investors, not enriching himself first.

People obsess about Buffett's personal wealth of $50-60 billion, but he made many times that amount for his investors.

Companies that make billions are usually ruthless in their business practices, that's not necessarily the case for a shrewd stock investor.

The Koch brothers are ruthless, amoral businessmen.

Buffett is not.

Buffett lives in the same house he bought in 1958.

Most of his political leanings are liberal IMO.

Buffett doesn't care too much about how a company makes its money, just as long as they're profitable.

Strictly as an investor, he gives himself a layer of denial.
But I think if you examine how Trump got rich and compare that to Buffett, it's not even close.

Trump paid bribes and outright broke laws to get casinos and hotels built.

Mobile homes are a relatively new investment for Buffett(less than 15-20 years). They definitely did not make him his fortune.

If this is an example of the ruthlessness of Warren Buffett over 50 years of investing, he's strictly small time compared to other billionaires.

Anyway, I was contradicting the assumption Buffet is a conservative.

He's a big supporter of Obama.




He agrees with the ACA and has donated over a billion dollars to pro-choice organizations.

He's in the George Soros camp politically, but he's not trying to buy candidates to promote his personal agenda.

 

I don't think he is all hugs and smiles, but his success is directly attributable to his extraordinary financial ability and talent. He picks his management team based on his instincts and comfort in their ability and he is usually spot on.

A corporate officer should be beholden to His investors before anyone else, and making the hard choices like cutting jobs is what has to be done at times. That comes with the territory.

It would be dishonest to discredit his work and lump him with every other rich businessman just because he has made some of the types of decisions that they all have made.

 

Why do conservatives insist a businessman will save us when businessmen are responsible for destroying this nation.

Buffett got rich BETTING on the American economy and American industry, time after time. He made bets on companies to become profitable, he wasn't short selling stocks banking that he'd profit when a corporation went broke.

I don't think that TDK is referring to small businessmen, necessarily. If he's thinking the way I am it's more about the really, really big scorched-earth type of capitalists who put profit ahead of absolutely everything else. And leave the rest of us worse off in the process.

Just like Trump does with his clothing line. And you know that he has some illegal labor working at his casinos and properties. He has zero incentive to change the status quo because he directly benefits from it and it would hurt his bottom line.

As I stated earlier, if he can rally all the radical republicans of Iowa and New Hampshire . . . the top rivals will probably drop out long before the get to Florida where of course he would have the money and national namefame with all the relocated Floridians to be competitive with Bush & Rubio . . . but will both make it to FL?

He turns this entire race on its head if the Tea Party GOP of Iowa and New Hampshire roll the dice on Trump . . . he really could win either or both contests because of their demographics (94% white and 97% white and they are rather old too so think about old racist republicans) and the young college kids who are likely to be enamored by his fame and wealth.

Please tell me who among the 17 candidates will survive to Nevada (the fourth contest) if Trump takes IA and then NH?? The latino vote is a non-factor until NV and even then I think they have to be registered GOP to vote!!

Well as I was theorizing . . . the Latin vote is not so strategically important in the early GOP contests. The state of Nevada is the fourth vote and by then the race will look entirely different if Trump takes care of business in Iowa and then New Hampshire followed by South Carolina which I remember is a closed primary so only GOP registered voters matter.

He has a lot of big money friends who would like to see one of there own get the white house too . . . they know people who know people ya know? Anyway here is the latest polling from Nevada, the first state with a considerable Latino vote:
